And many thanks for your mercy this time, Mr Secretary: the memory of my embarrassing collapse must still be fresh.
Lift is still no problem, Blurred.

Excellent, many thanks.
I shall be getting my practice in this weekend as I'm jetting off to Ireland on Friday for our annual hack around a couple of incredibly nice courses. Hopefully upon my return I'll find the gentle slopes, softer greens and non-existant rough of Regent's Park a breeze having been toughened on Royal Portrush and the like.
If I have any golf balls left, that is.
Is anyone putting themselves forward for booking up some tee times? I'm not about to do it this weekend, otherwise I would...

You're alright, fella. I don't mind doing it but they won't let you book until one week before hand. I've just remembered that I'm off next week an' all so might be able to get a practice round in or two. God knows I need 'em.blurred wrote: Is anyone putting themselves forward for booking up some tee times? I'm not about to do it this weekend, otherwise I would...

whinge whinge fecking whinge that's all I ever hear with handicaps, and those that whinge most usually aren't far off the reckoning either.
IF i can play, I shall, as reigning champ and bearing in mind a run of 11 holes for +4 in last year's event, take 11. Which is a fecking disgrace really but if it'll keep you quiet....

Compared to mine it seems about right - I got 94 in my only round of the last year (although that was at Arrowe Park, which is pretty simple), and I'm a few under you. Perhaps we should both get a couple of extra shots - deal?ratbert wrote:Is 16 right for my handicap? I'm probably closer to Bruce than Hotdog in terms of numbers, though I got 101 in my only round of the last eight months.

Depends what tee-times we can book - someone will need to give 'em a bell on Sunday to book ahead for next week. Last year it was about a half-ten tee off, I think.ratbert wrote:And what time are we meeting on the day?
hmmm, I was pretty certain it was a late one last year because I was in a rush to get to band practise for 4 o'clock and didn't stick around for the prize giving ceremony. I didn't even find out me and Commie had won until I saw it in his signature on here a few days later!
Anyhow, the earlier the better this year

Yeah, earlier than 10.30 would be a bit of a pain for me too.ratbert wrote:I'm most likely to be coming to the course straight from Brum so not too early please...

Golf is natures way of giving, a reason to be living,
The smashing drive that makes a man a king.
Once, on a high and windy hill,
in the morning mist, my golf club kissed, that shiny white round thing
Then my fingers slipped, upon the club, and I did a highland fling.
Yes golf is, a many spleandoured thing...
Will only make sense to older members, probably.

I was scarred as a child by golf, pushy familly and all, but despite constant pressure i was always TERRIBLE, i think the lowest i ever got my handicap was 33, and that was after 4 years of being forced to play nearly every weekend. As a result of being rubbish, stressed, and wet, i understand the highlighted line perfectly well

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

You played nearly every weekend for 4 years and the best you could get to was 33?!Prufrock wrote: I was scarred as a child by golf, pushy familly and all, but despite constant pressure i was always TERRIBLE, i think the lowest i ever got my handicap was 33, and that was after 4 years of being forced to play nearly every weekend. So anyway, does this mean you're a late entry? I'm sure you could talk your playing partners into submission, at any rate!

Bloody hell, I could throw a golf ball round in less than that. Been waiting ages to get that one in.Prufrock wrote:
