I don't like dogs...

And big scary dogs I find big and scary...

And little yappy ones I find little and yappy, but I do have the consolation of thinking I could kick em under the chin with my boots on if they come near... ...

And the adoration of their owners for these smelly, disease spreading, shitting on pathways vile creatures is totally beyond me...

I think regulations on dog ownership and the responsibilities of owners should be much tougher than now when any stupid, uncaring idiot can (and sometimes does) possess a creature than can cause serious damage to people and in unusual extreme cases kill...

Dogs in general are only vicious when taught to be. Owners are a different story altogether.

There are numerous occasions on vicious dog stories where I think justice would require the owners to be put down...

Do you think, Tango, I know you are a dog lover, which beats me, but, hey, that there should be regulations about who might owwn a dog? Like passing a driving test, fostering a child etc...

I don't mind some, but those bull terrier things make me feel all weird inside, horrible looking things.

TD, I think it is fairly well accepted that certain breeds of dog have certain, general temperaments, and I think it is a combination of that and owner which creates problems. Certainly agree with WtW on the need for tougher regulations. Mesen, I'd ban anybody who owns anything made by Kappa from having one full stop, but I may be getting into Planet Hobo territory here.

Now idea how you do it, keep forgetting :)

Funny how those nasty bull terrier things have never bitten me, only dogs that have (and meant it) are Labradors!

Worked at kennels and walked dogs for RSPCA rescue centre and it was usually the so called scary dogs that had been trained and the labs etc that were allowed to be mad and a pain.

I would say stricter regs on dog ownership but we know the vermin who have dogs as status symbols etc would just ignore it (like that do Asbo's, driving bans etc etc)
My dog (proper 57) had his anal glands emptied once and yes the smell is something to behold!!

If you have a photobucket account or similar raven, it's easy!

I still find it hard to believe there are people in the world that don't really like dogs! I think the key to it and whether you are scared of them or not is whether you grew up with them. Most kids I know that are scared of dogs don't have their own.

It depends on what you mean by 'dislike', boltonaremysecondteam - at least in my opinion. Since my marriage I have not 'owned' a dog whilst prior to that my father was the pack leader. He had a couple of cattle dogs, which tend to be a one man canine. That's not to say they don't get on with the rest of a family, but the boss is the boss. I don't think I would like to get into some sort of physical stoush with the owner of one, red or blue, if the dog was present.

I like dogs though. Over the years I have not met a dog with which I couldn't make friends, whatever its reputation or initial gruffness or shyness. Maybe I've only crossed paths with nice, well behaved dogs?

Why do I not have a dog in the house? Well that's a complex question. Firstly, my wife is not as comfortable as I in their presence. Secondly, because I used to commute to the city and a 12-hour absence was a minimum, a 36-hour absence was not uncommon and a 48-hour or more disappearing act was rare but hardly unknown. That's not fair to the dog and hardly conducive to a proper relationship (the dog, not my wife).

Do you really mean a bull terrier, Prufrock, or are you confusing them with pit bulls or Staffordshire bull terriers?

Never mind 'confusion' as tho this is some argument at Crufts, you know perfectly well what Pru is saying... imho... those animals should never be allowed out without a muzzle and no one should be allowed to have them in the same house as a child under twelve...

Sorry William thats nonsense, if thats the rule it should apply to all dogs, any dog can bite and seriously maim a child, in my eyes anyone leaving a young child alone with any dog should be done for child neglect and animal cruelty they have failed both.

In my experience with dogs I have never met anyone bitten by an English Bull Terrier (I would love one), Bull Mastiff, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiller etc etc but have met people and seen people bitten by Jack Russell Terriers, Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, Chihuahua's, Shih Tzu's none of which would be looked on as vicious dogs
My dog (proper 57) had his anal glands emptied once and yes the smell is something to behold!!

I have known three people bitten badly by dogs - in two cases it was a labrador/retriever in the other - a jack russell.

labrador bites are wayyyyyyyy more common than "pit-bull" bites. (of course there are more labradors! - but the idea that you could mark out selected breeds as "more dangerous" and therefore banned, and it make any sense, is ludicrous.)

Yes Dijon, you're right. Sometimes circumstances can dictate whether you're able to own a dog. It's not fair to leave them hours on end. I'm lucky in that I work part time so can spend a lot if time with milo though he's so old and slow now he can't go out for long walks and sleeps most of the day so dunno how much he appreciates it. I love having him around though. I also have 2 cats, 4 chickens and 3 ducks though so I can't imagine not having a house filled with animals (though on hubbys insistance the chickens and ducks live outside! ;))

One day I want a smallholding of my own... There's only so much you can fit in a village 3 bed end of terrace...

And as I've said before - I'm yet to see one that hasn't been attached to a tattooed forearm.
