The famous one that you may have heard of is London Pride, but if you find a pub that the regulars know their beer go for Fuller's Chisick - Mmmm!!!

Was quite particular to Old Speckled Hen or Dogbolter from the Firkin pubs.

Do like Hoegarden though and Leffe Blonde.

There never was a pint in this whole world to rivel Maggee Marshall's best mild. Chesters mild came a close second, but Maggee was king. Was never quite the same when Greehall Whitley took over.

I wish I was in Greenhall Whitley land
where hearts are warm and beer is cool
the girl I left behind perhaps you think of me, as I think of you
the jokes, the warmth the fun, the girl behind the bar
but most of all, Greenhall Whitleys most of all, I'm missing you.

Erdinger - lovely lovely stuff. Drink it more than anything if I can get it - New Oxford, Cask and Kings Arms in Salford/Off deansgate sell it, so often found there.

In Prague I was drinking Pilsner Urquell - which was also lovely!

Wow I was going to start a thread asking about this and amazing I see this one brought up!

I love Guinness, but tried whats called an oatmeal stout in Canada, St Ambroise, and really liked it alot. What is it with Manchester? I'm staying just outside the City Center, I've been to 4 pubs, and not one of them has a stout on tap, and I cant find an oatmeal stout anywhere. i read theres a brewery called Sam Smith that does a mean oatmeal stout in the UK, but no one Ive met has heard of it and none of the off license places have any stout except for Guinness. What gives?????

Any suggestions wise ones?

Great pub just outside Manchester - loads of beers. Loads of local stuff too.

Jump off Salford Central trainstation do a left to the main road, cross over, down a back street, and it's next to Salford Mag Court ;)

Probably the next likliest to Guinness is Murphy's on draught. Sam Smiths do an Oatmeal Stout in bottles (or used to until recently)

Samuel Smith is a good brewery. Well aside from the fact that it;s a Yorkshire brewery.

Thanks Dan M. I'll have a look, hope they have something heavy.
Ya I saw a sign at a bar saying Murphys rich stout, sounded good, I walked in, absolutely empty, and the girl behind the bar had no idea they had a sign saying Murphys stout in the window, or what it was.
I read up and found that Sam Smiths oatmeal stout is available mainly in bottles outside of Tadcaster, but I cant even find it in bottles in any of the stores near where I'm staying, or on Oxford road.

Oddly enough you can find it in the states quite easily.

The Timmy Taylor's Landlord in The Ainsworth and the Pendle Witches or the Black Sheep up at the Strawbury Duck. Oh, and it's pretty hard to go wrong with anything in The Flag.

See, I always remembered it as "where beer is cool" (descending notes) before the uplifting "and hearts are warm"... and "perhaps she's missing me as I'm missing her..."
