not really a car-expert or usually that interested - but spotted this vintage Sunbeam Tiger po-po car today...

you couldn't really mind that much being flagged down by one of those with it's cute little bumper-bell, could you?

And your heart, Spotty? Hidden beneath that rather attractive exterior was a large V8 engine. I think that the bell for whom it tolls was an optional extra, thebish.

manning a stall at the Kingsteignton Ram Fair today..

upholding our fine British culture in this fine country of ours..

was really relieved that militant muslims and asylum-seekers and looney-lefty commie euro-freaks failed in their bid to ban the blacked-up morris dancers and the maypole dancing...

Good for you bish..I knew you'd see the light.

Nice pics. The Morris men are Stone the Crows and they've performed on Bolton town hall square and outside the Man and Scythe. .

There were black face Morrismen dancing round Horwich a few weeks ago.
I once went to a party as Papa Lazarou from the League of Gentlemen and some nutty woman started shouting at me in the pub aferwards for being a racist. I was led away by friends before I could relieve her of her ignorance.

Just to clear up the black face thing which isn't racist at all. The Moors and Christians festivals take place in Spain, but blacked faces means something entirely different in this country. If you're interested enough:

Crikey! Maypole dancing. I'm sure that someone somewhere in this country has a maypole but I've never seen one here. As a youngster in England I do recall having to practice around a maypole that was set up inside the school. I was as hopeless then at dancing as I was doing the bridal waltz at my wedding - and still am. Mind you when done properly by competent people the patterns produced on the pole by the dancers' ribbons were quite attractive.

Thanks for the link, TANGO. I was unaware of 'black face' Morris dancers prior to thebish's post.

The Britannia Coco-nut Dancers from Bacup are a very famous dance troupe who have performed for many a year. Almost all came to an end last year though when the local constabulary informed them they could not perform if they did not have public liability insurance, which they didn't have and couldn't get.

Much like all these ancient traditions I suspect its an opportunity for men to get together and enjoy a p*ss-up!

Yes I've read about them before Tango. Same goes for the Papa Lazarou character who is part travelling fairground gypsy with a sinister black face thing and meant to lampoon middle class prejudices. Some people just like to take offence.

Also have to agree with Pru, I'm not a big fan whatever colour the faces are!

The only time that I recall having seen one here, was when we danced around one at Primary School for the Queen's silver jubilee in 1977.

I enjoyed it.

All good harmless fun. Still loads of them around, particularly in places like Haworth. Those who want things to be racist will see them that way come what may. I've no regrets about my lifetime with all its maypoles and Morris dancers; I sincerely hope yer actual Prufrocks have as much fun in theirs.
