Sorry England. Started watching this at 10.30, we've been labouring ever since. Only 1 winner now

Stokes needs to start making some runs because it’s hard to come in and hit it. He’s just a bit too in his shell for me. Start finding the gaps. You aren’t blasting 6’s but not getting enough 2’s and 3’s.

What a nail-biter. England World 20-20 champions. Captain fantastic does it again. Credit to Pakistan for keeping us on edge right through, some great length bowling from Rauf and Afriti and the fielding was exceptional, but we won in style at the death. Just 5 balls left when Stokes smashed the winner. Fantastic game in front of a massive crowd and so edgy and uncertain; real edge of seat stuff. Well done England.

Tough one to call today..Curran bowled great, Rashid got very important wickets, without Stokes and a cameo from Moeen that might have looked a whole lit different, so pressed for a pick, I think I might hide...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:39 amCurran MOTM and of the tournament for me. Pakistan might have had something to do with that. Credit where it's due.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:12 amStokes needs to start making some runs because it’s hard to come in and hit it. Curran without doubt. Bowling at the start and death and his figures of 3 for 12. I mean that’s not just special it’s unheard of in this format. For his role you’d normally think you’ve done well it under 8 and over. So under 32. Good stuff. 4 an over is remarkable. Stokes post match just said as much that they won the game.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:47 amTough one to call today..Curran bowled great, Rashid got very important wickets, without Stokes and a cameo from Moeen that might have looked a whole lit different, so pressed for a pick, I think I might hide...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:39 amCurran MOTM and of the tournament for me. Stokes kept his cool and played brilliantly but in reality in take the occasion out and this is a regulation chase. What Curran did was anything but and in any game in this format is remarkable.

Curran does win MOTM and POTT and very much deserved. How much has he improved?

Well yes, there's certainly no reason you couldn't have picked Curran...have an Internet badge!
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
"take the occasion out" Jesus.
I'd have gone Stokes, but I'm not going to argue too hard. Curran (and Rashid) were exceptional.
Marvelous stuff!

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Yeah, my wrestle with that is Curran goes for 24, much tougher for Stokes, but when we were batting, it felt like if Stokes went, they'd have really got the wind in their sails...quite a few overs in the mid game, I thought we were going to blow it.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Yep. Without either of their contributions we'd have been in trouble.
Arguably if Afredi stays fit it's much tougher too. *Probably* had the wickets in hand but every time it popped up saying "England 75%" it didn't feel that comfortable!

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
The point I’m making is currans figures are unbelievable in any T20 game in any circumstances. Let alone in a final with this much pressure.
Stokes innings was very good and considering the pressure remarkable but if he does that in a routine game it’s not exactly seen as something out the ordinary.
Whereas currans figures were just unbelievable.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Ah with you. Though I think 52* in any low scoring game is also excellent.

The "occasion" being the World Cup Final not a routine game. . A nod to that and the quality sides we beat in getting there. Eleven M.O.T.M candidates for me with Stokes top of the pile.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 3:38 pmThe point I’m making is currans figures are unbelievable in any T20 game in any circumstances. I’m not sure it’s easy to consider just how remarkable 4 overs 3-12 is as figures for a bowler in the power play and last 5. Don’t think that will come close to being repeated.

Well done, England. And credit to Pakistan's bowling unit for making it an absorbing contest. Had Afridi not injured himself it might've been very close.
Curran was excellent and has been throughout the tournament, though I think there's a strong argument to be made that Rashid put in our most important bowling performance. Taking the wicket of a well-set Azam, removing Haris early in his innings, and bowling a wicket maiden.
A note for the franchise advocates: England are the reigning 50-over and T20 world champions and that success has been earned by players developed in the county set-up.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Rashid has been outstanding this WC. Without the wickets he deserved. Best one day spin bowler going.
I also think whilst we’ll never know I think without the injury we might be looking at a different result. That really did let us just hit those two boundaries that changed the game completely. And then let loose in the next over. It was very hard to hit the fence and if it had been seamers all the way from that point…I’m not as convinced.
