Re: The athletics/running thread
Yes once in 2002. Brilliant race. Only thing is the last mile seems never ending cos you can see the finish but it doesn't seem to get any closer!officer_dibble wrote:GNR pack came today. anyone done that here?

It's a point to point and a bugger to get back into Newcastle from South Shields as all the roads are closed. First time me and my boss sat in the pib until the roads opened and taxi-ed back.
It's relatively flat but there's a lump around the 11 mile mark which can catch you by surprise.
Fantastic atmosphere though and a free air display from the Red Arrows at the finish.

Not Athletics, or running, but I used to box a little when I was younger.. Want to get back into training, not to compete because I'd never be at that level, but purely for the fitness.
Going before work tomorrow morning to a place in Ancoats to have some 1 to 1 with a lad who used to go the same club. He's been at it for 20 years and I'm feckin dreading it :-s

Go in windmilling. That'll sort the men out from the boys.

I went to a boxing gym for a while because I kept getting injured running. Then injured my neck and went back to running! Great for fitness though, enjoyed it too.
Look forward to moving lime a 90 year old for 3 days Boris, if my experiences are anything to go by.

Re: The athletics/running thread
When I was about 12, me and my mate from school went down to The Lads Club on Bark Street as they used to host boxing training on a Friday night. The rule was that you had to have trained six times before they allowed you in the ring. As such we dutifully turned up for six consecutive weeks and I'd finally earned a go. About 15 seconds of dancing about in and my opponent absolutely snotted me one.
That was me and boxing done with.

Pilgrims cross fell race last night over Holcombe Moor. Went over on my ankle in the first mile and seriously thought about jacking. Conditions were horrendous for bloody August and I had an unpleasant shock in the shower afterwards due to considerable chafing around the undercarriage
3rd consecutive top half finish though which is my target for these races. Feet up for a bit now

Another 5K Cross-trainer and a 5K run again tonight. Then I might have a blast on the rowing machine. I hate that bastard thing!

Thinking of getting myself one of these? Anyone know of any decent ones going around for around the same price, or less?

Fair play to you. The journey from couch to the gym has always been one I've struggled to motivate myself withBruce Rioja wrote:No, down the gym, Harry.Harry Genshaw wrote:You going to a gym Bruce or got the machines in the garage?Bruce Rioja wrote:Another 5K Cross-trainer and a 5K run again tonight. I have to it like this. Arrive home - drop bag in hall - go straight upstairs and get changed into gym kit (+ grab stuff) - go to gym.Harry Genshaw wrote:

Any sitting down, grabbing of mail, sticking on of TV etc are all expressly prohibited, else the journey you mention really is difficult.
