I think we should campaign for the re-introduction of some, like the 'knife and fork' Wimpy.2399 wrote:Also have a no longer with us food places thread to be made as well.

whereas
my dad's fave & where he tried manfully to have me eat Tripe, cowheel & even trotters. Not a cat-in-hell's, btw.
However I DID develop a lifetime interest in severe looking women in black with small white pinny's !

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My Nan used to eat tripe - I tried a little bit once and spat it out. Also, got served tripe soup in Romania - refused to eat it (do you eat soup or drink it? I've never known

The Comercial pub, ( town hall square) with restaurant above, used to be staffed by just such ladies. Polished silver cutlery and good food to boot. UCP also had a place on Bradshawgate at the bottom of Great Moor Street. Happy days.bobo the clown wrote: my dad's fave & where he tried manfully to have me eat Tripe, cowheel & even trotters. not "angry" as such - but a bit sad...
in the early hours of the morning one of my church members died - aged 100. We celebrated with him back in June, and he lived a good, full life...
but it set me thinking... he was alive through the first world war. It won't be long before we have nobody left with first-hand memory of that momentous piece of our history...
I know this happens every day - history is an ever rolling wave - but his death kind of brought it home to me how we are always losing these links with the past - and how we don't take full advantage of them while we have them...

Bolton Council - Not only do they think that I've got nothing better to do with my back garden than store a phalanx of unsightly dustbins in it, they also think that I've nothing better to do with my time than to sift through my rubbish and seperate it. Not happy with that though, they now want house space as well.
I get home from work yesterday to find a black plastic container next to the door. On closer inspection I find that the Nazi wankers expect me to keep this repulsive object in my kitchen and put food waste in it.
Well thank you very much Bolton Council, you'll find your little black container in my garage, filled with golf balls, and your bio-degradable bin liners being used in my pedal bins. You'll also find my potato peelings et al in the dustbin. Help yourselves! Harrumph!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
We've had some bins "unemptied" in sunny Salford for having the wrong types of plastic in etc. At which point we call them up, berate them and they send a bin waggon round to empty it. Great way to help the climate.Bruce Rioja wrote:Bolton Council - Not only do they think that I've got nothing better to do with my back garden than store a phalanx of unsightly dustbins in it, they also think that I've nothing better to do with my time than to sift through my rubbish and seperate it. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I'm not too sure that I'd like a black plastic food waste bin in my kitchen either, Bruce. The white one I already have is quite sufficient, thank you. There is a difference, of course, as the white one is emptied on a daily basis (or even more often) with the contents being added to a compost heap. Fortunately there is garden where I live so the compost is not an impost but a benison. I must admit that if we didn't have a garden or that my wife was not such a keen gardener as she is I don't know what I'd do with the inevitable detritus of eating. Should you be lacking either one of those then you have my heartfelt sympathy.
