Pub is quiet tonight so I'm doing some reading. Finished The Girl With the Dragon Tatto, and moved onto The Case of the Pope: Vatican Accountability for Human Rights' Abuse. Sickening stuff.

Slightly angry/fretting about the person I used to like calling for long phone conversations...

"Call me tommorow night"
"nah I probably won't"
"No, You Will"

Massive gust of wind went through and I heard the bins out the front crash.
As I was taking them in a guy approached me and said his car was hit.
Got my name address and phone number and said he was going to claim.

Hope I don't get sued! I am worried.

My friend says I am not liable, but I'm still worried

Would like to get onto this myself. Not likely to happen in a while though.

Have you listened to Geoffrey speaking on this at LSE?

I am now reading Jonathan Powell's Blair/Machiavelli book, however. Absolutely compelling.

Probably the wrong thread for this....

Subway.

Went in to buy a sandwich, dont go in much.

Firstly they should have simple choices. CBA with the what bread would you like sir, 6" or foot long (bit personal no?), cheese and toasted? extra cheese sir? would you like salad? would you like double anything? would you like sauce sir? how many and which?

Then get to the till, with my ham salad sandwich and diet coke bottle.

Till moron "Would you like to make that a meal, with a cookie or crisps, it'll be cheaper?"

Me "I guess I'll have some crisps then"

Till Moron "Ok, do you have a sub card?"

Me "No, oh actually I do" - one from a while ago that the missus used to use

So gave till moron the card.

Till Moron "Sir you have enough points for a free 6 incher (ooooeer)"

Me "Great, knock it off the price".

Till Moron "Sir you can't do that with a meal"

Me "Oh, well forget the meal, just give me the sandwich and the drink"

Till Moron "But its cheaper as a meal"

Me "But you just said I could get it free on its own?"

Till Moron "But you'll pay for the drink then"

Me *losing will to live* "Look forget the points I'll just pay for the meal deal"

Till Moron "But sir you have enough points for a free 6 inch"

I suspect if you'd bent them over the till and given them the benefit of a free 6 inch, they probably wouldn't have mentioned it to the next customer...

If thats a subway in England, I'd have twatted him with the six incher for keep using the word "sir".

Its so f*cking yank. Stop it.

It was and it did irritate. Saying it once is ok, IMO, but more than that, it gets a bit irritating.

There are only a couple of NHS Dentist on the IoW Bish. For nearly ten years there wasn't one at all; public pressure led to the opening (folowing the 'privatisation of dental practice', where if you were in dire need you had to wait to go to the hospital dental service) of the NHS dentists about 2 years ago. Staffed in the main by dentists of Polish origin. (Not that I've 'owt against that). The unwritten rule is, if you have a job, go private or wait about 5 months for an appointment. It's a national scandal, and one which I'm sure isn't confined to the IoW.

bummer... I've been fortunate to have NHS dentistry for my whole family over the last decade... two kids with braces and one with a knocked out front tooth that meant shuffling all his teeth along one space to fill the gap... all free on the NHS... everything else - fixed price quoted in advance... (it still seems expensive to me - but not on the private scale...)

Maybe not angry but more than a tad frustrated.

Couriers.

"Your item will be delivered between 1pm and 2pm Tuesday 20th Sept"

So I'm here at the office. Checks watch. Watches phone. Nonga.

Today. The item to be returned to the consignor.

Tomorrow. Meant to be giving the item as a leaving gift.

On the NHS you have a tooth that needs a temp filling, then a root canal treatment, then another temp filling, then a crown fitting.

Total cost £204.

Privately that more that wouldn't even cover the cost of the root canal procedure alone!

yeah - the crown is 2 appointments - first to do the drilling out and major pain work - and a temp filling - then 2 weeks later to have the crown fitted...
