Having a good run of bad luck. My iMac hard drive ceased working on Sunday, the first hard drive I've lost in, ooh, 26 years of owning and using computers. To be fair to Apple this particular Seagate drive was subject to a recall six months ago and I never had time to get it done. Forced into it now though.

did you have to pay "data recovery" fees ?

its a dear do getting data from the hdd platters, when the curcuit board and things are knack'd

the actual price is like a state secret too.

Not planning on having anything recovered. I use Apple Time Machine, which backs up to an external HD. A bit of a pain but it should be reet*. Biggest problem is they can't even accept it for repair until Thursday and will then give me a 5-7 day turnaround.

BRILLIANT!! I don't know when it is being released but I am off to Manchester to queue up outside the Apple Store for the big day. You will not believe how jealous other Apple Fanboys will be when they find out I was first to get one in the North West. In fact I may get two because they are worth it.

Really? I've got ALL my data on it (music, photos, financial pdfs I've scanned going back years, the lot) and it's just a drop in the ocean - when I look at properties it's just a teeny weeny wedge of used on a vast unused background pie.

I have a pocket sized 1Tb portable hard drive. I have about 8,000 albums on it, decades of photo's too. It is getting toward 80% full now but it does the job. Cost about £80.

I can't imagine having mine 80% full. But then again, I never thought I'd take up that much space on a hundred gig hard drive and I managed to stuff it nearly full - but then again a lot of that was program stuff.

That's an eye watering price for what is essentially a child's toy.

Still, good luck to them. As long as there are enough silly pricks in the world prepared to pay that sort of premium then you can't blame Apple for charging the prices they do.

My NAS (network attached storage) hard drive is a measly 500gb. I must get around to upgrading sometime as it is fairly full. I use it for backing up my laptop and use it for streaming my music and tv/films I plan to keep. I'll probably go for something that holds multiple hard drives so I can back-up the back-up I reckon 2tb each drive should future proof me for a good few years.

Plugged my phone into my lappy simply to charge it up really. Expecting the usual 'sync', 'import pics' and whatnot, no, this time I get some pap about needing to update the software on my phone. So I agree to it all yet 15 minutes later get some message about an unknown error having occurred and the update having not worked. Worse still, my phone had actually packed up!!!!1111ONE

So, I brought the whole lot home, plugged them together, and was then informed that my phone had gone into some recovery mode and I've now had to restore/reset it to factory settings.

Bunch of arse.

Thanks for the heads up on the iOS update.....just done both iPhone and iPad.... No issues

Nokias are still about......the Lumia is their smartphone.
