It's where they make Mars bars, of course it's a strange place.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

I am happy today that a fellow forum member has had the misfortune to be moving to Bracknell, a mere 5 minutes on the train from where I live.

Ah, winter has arrived. Snow on the hills above me. Wentworth Falls to Katoomba is classed as extremely icy, the road from Lithgow to Bathurst is closed but, best of all, it doesn't affect me.

Winter in July, Christmas in summer: you Aussies are a perverse lot.Dujon wrote:Ah, winter has arrived. Snow on the hills above me. Wentworth Falls to Katoomba is classed as extremely icy, the road from Lithgow to Bathurst is closed but, best of all, it doesn't affect me.
If I'd have been the 'governor' of Botany Bay prison colony exclave all those years ago, I'd have renamed the months so that July was January, August was February and so on, and that way you could enjoy proper seasonable months. (Mind you, that was probably why transportation was so feared - being forced to celebrate Christmas in a heatwave: proper punishment!)

Nicked this off of 'In and Around Bolton', but this was my daily winter grind just to get to school and back.Dujon wrote:Ah, winter has arrived. Snow on the hills above me. I remember it only too well, Bruce. Whilst that image is impressive it's nice to see something like this on the odd occasion:
Snow Boomers!

Snow Boomers!

Re: Today I'm happy about......
I sent a ranty e-mail to Virgin Trains about they're fecking new toilets, and they're stupid website, and how they're wasting money on gimmicks instead of acting like a proper business and making savings which are passed on to the customer which was the whole point of privatisation in the first place.
They've sent me a voucher for £20
.
I'm tempted to send it back pointing out that it's an example of exactly the sort of stupid fecking shit that I was on about. Stop trying to make me like you; be better at trains.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
I'm a bit lost about all this. I've never really had any problem with Virgin trains on the London route. Sometimes they're a bit full, but I can't recall the last time one I was on, was late, other than on one occasion when the poor train driver died of a heart attack, which I can forgive them for.Prufrock wrote:I sent a ranty e-mail to Virgin Trains about they're fecking new toilets, and they're stupid website, and how they're wasting money on gimmicks instead of acting like a proper business and making savings which are passed on to the customer which was the whole point of privatisation in the first place.

Either you're very lucky, or I'm unlucky. About 50% of my trips with them go wrong in some way. From overcrowded trains where there isn't room to even sit on the floor, to trains running late, being cancelled. And it's not even cheap.
What's worth, having spent a year traveling London-Cheltenham once a month, Virgin aren't even the worst.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
Whenever I travel the Manc-London route (which isn't loads tbf) it's always on time. I've never encountered people sitting on the floor and the prices are dirt cheap if booked far enough in advance. Cost me £86 return for 4 the last time I travelled with them.Prufrock wrote:Worthy4England wrote:I'm a bit lost about all this. I can cope with the 'wacky' toilet messages in that case, and any other corporate shite that they want to throw my way.

↑↑↑ Interesting that they sort of decided to drop that .... & now we're falling out with Russia that it maybe needs dusting down again.

I was too busy being a child to pay attention. What's going on? Yeah, happy to let them get away with an assassination on British soil whilst we wanted to be friends.
