Which bit isn't true? And the Africans and stagnant water bit - could you explain that a bit more?a1 wrote:that's not true , its like saying africans poison their kids making them drink stagnant (?) water.William the White wrote:
Yep. Nat's dead and a man who tried to poison his daughter on live television with a BSE dripped sandwich is alive and allowed on public radio financed by the licence payer.

Watched Requiem for a Dream. I don't think I've seen a film so remorseless before. voyeuristic, tricky, self-indulgent and above all grim, it's played out on a single note, without major turning points or changes of fortune. It's one way traffic, downhill, hell waiting. It was Hubert Selby Jnr territory, that's for sure.
And I thought it was utterly gripping. Just as his novel Last Exit to Brooklyn, inhabitating the same social and moral world, was gripping and repellent.
I now need to watch a KIND film that makes feel good about people...

Soundtrack excellent imo. Esp the string quartet.

Clint Mansell.. Got some of his stuff on my iPod. He's mostly known for 'Lux Aeterna', which is the main track on the film.. Been used in shitloads of adverts and stuff. skysports news used it for a bit tooWilliam the White wrote:I got it partly because of that... then chickened out on watching for ages...Bruce Rioja wrote:So as Mannerheim and I described it to you then, WilWilliam the White wrote:Watched Requiem for a Dream. Watching the Gooners at The Velodrome is bringing back fantastic memories of the Marseille trip. Sadly, I doubt we'll see the likes of which again.

Watched Holy Flying Circus on BBC4. Satirical drama on the religious backlash to Life of Brian.
Mostly hilarious, laugh out loud. Like all satire missed a lot of targets also. But recommend wholly.

This is on again now. Thoroughly enjoyable from what I've seen so far Will, thanks for the recommend.William the White wrote:Watched Holy Flying Circus on BBC4. Satirical drama on the religious backlash to Life of Brian.

I can recall attending a prayer group meeting after watching it. I was nearly stoned to death after pointing out how incredibly funny it was.

It will surpise the young uns on here, but this film caused deep disagreement at the time. Having gained an 18 cert. (or whatever it was in those days) local councils were then able to allow or ban it's showing in their cinemas. Almost all of North Wales banned it, though Chester permitted it. This resulted in coach trips !!Worthy4England wrote:This is on again now. The week it opened I was in Llandudno and Colwyn Bay was the only authority in the North which did allow it, so we went there. It was on continual showing (only one screen per cinema in those days guys). We had to queue .... and were harangued by bible & banner waving protesters. Amazing.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Sign of the times Bobo. When "Rock Around the Clock" ,first real rock and roll film, arrived it was banned in Bolton and we had to go the the Ritz at Farnworth to see it. The Vatican banned the use of the words "Answer me, Lord above" in a pop song and insisted Catholics use "Answer me, oh my love" instead. Jerry Lee Lewis was banned over here for arriving with his fourteeen year old wife (his cousin) and all Catholics who went to Bolton Tech had to stay outside of morning assembly and not sing C of E hymns.(even though we all thought Jerusalem was ace). One of the local priests used to prowl around youth club dances to make sure there was " none of that rock and roll stuff going on". Seems real silly now, but it wasn't then.bobo the clown wrote:It will surpise the young uns on here, but this film caused deep disagreement at the time. Having gained an 18 cert.
