Where are you going tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

He'll never escape his catholic angst and guilt.
McGovern's first plays were produced on stage at Liverpool Playhouse in - I think - the 1980s. I only saw one - it was dreadful. Cut out characterisation, no stagecraft, no command of dramatic structure, crucially lacking the ability to create on stage a whole world inhabited by these characters. He's an outstanding TV writer, i think, though susceptible to Bruce's criticism, as he often seems to have a project. It's also pretty much a masculine world he inhabits. But give him the brief slot (comparatively) - often 60 minutes - and the flexibility of the camera, a much more literal medium than the stage and he's very good. He's dissing something he can't do.

Our MD was telling me once that this risible type that works at our place, a few years ago, walked into his office and said thusly "I've calculated that the Christmas party will cost the company around £50 per person. Being as I don't want to come to the party can I have the cash instead?". He was met with "Actually it costs over £100 per head and no, you can feck off, you French c*nt", although I really doubt that those will've been the actual words chosen for the rebuttal.

I'm in the middle of the winter gig run. I see Gaslight Anthem at the Apollo, which were ok but I preferred the show at the Academy. They were a bit too "feck it, last show on the tour" for me. And I was fecking blind by the end of it.

We Are Scientists at Liverpool was a good day out as always but last nights Vampire Weekend at Blackpool's Empress Ballroom is the best so far.

Next Fri is Interpol at the Apollo and Arcade Fire will soon follow that at the GMex

Phew

Just got two of their albums and playing them in the car. '59 Sound and American Slang. Kind of Springsteen meets Green Day. Not bad.

Thought you didn't like the Academy? :P

I've got the first album, very enjoyable, but from what I've seen of them live they've looked and sounded bloody awful, including a stint on LwJH a few weeks back. As such, I haven't bothered going to see them.

Squeeze are on at the Apollo btw, tomorrow. Now there's a band that know how to play live. :D

William - that's pretty unfortunate! Some row

Bruce - it's true the Academy is no good for us short-arses which says everything about the gig compared with the Apollo one! The first gig earlier this summer was very good, the third album really cuts it live.

General - it can be arranged
