I note that my fave London (probably in the whole country) restaurant - Moro - gets five stars in the '50 best Restaurants' list. Spanish/north African - not to be missed. Still to get there William. It's on the list to do though.
Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Yeah I'm still on the 'must do Moro' camp too. Is within walking distance from work too.
You lot fancy clubbing together sending me off to try all these Mexican places so I can report on my theory that the independent ones will be good

I'd ask and say the same of Las Iguanas. Think we need to be a little more discerning when banding round the term 'chain' in a pejorative context. People seem to lump in deserving, successful, independently owned outlets that have grown on the backs of their own success to having a half a dozen outlets with crass, brewery-owned one-on-every-shopping-jungle places serving up absolute shite.Gary the Enfield wrote:Prufrock wrote: its all Wahaca, Las Iguanas and Burrito places.
What's wrong with Wahaca by the way? Been twice and loved it.

friggin love Wahaca. is becoming a bit ubiquitous tbf but there is nowhere else id rather go!
as for other mexicanas, ive been to Boho Mexica nr Spitalfields and Chico Bandito in Shoreditch. the latter was alright but the former was absolutely shite.

Las (Los) Iguanas in Spitalfields was cracking.
I've been to the Wahaca in Stratford twice and eaten from the fast food van on the South Bank it's delicious food.
I do tend to avoid Chiquitos or Chimichangas as they are definitely 'the same food folded differently'

i love that street kitchen (van) too. im finding myself on a train into Waterloo quite often atm and its difficult to think past calling there on the way home!
i didnt like the one at Stafford so much. and the southbank one has lost its charm for me, overcrowded and uncomforatble. Covent Garden or Charlotte street are my faves.

Been to Las Iguanas, thought it was rubbish. Maybe I picked badly. Defo a same stuff folded differently IMO. Skipped Wahaca coz I thought it would be another in the same mould but I've just googled it and doesn't look like your standard 'chain'

Is Las Iguanas a Mexican, or just South American? Just looked at the menu and yes, I see that they do do all that chimichanga stuff now so shame on them. That's the stuff I avoid.Prufrock wrote:I thought you said Mexican reataurants were all shoite?!Bruce Rioja wrote:I'd ask and say the same of Las Iguanas. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
So tonight it is lemon sole, purple sprouting broccoli from the garden and a few new potatoes.
There's an Albarino from Galicia and a Viognier from Chile in the fridge, but I've not decided which to have.
And the 25% off six bottles of wine offer at Morrisons has led to me stocking up a little on red and white Burgundy.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Just a heads up for wine drinkers. The current Morrisons offer of 25% off 6 bottles finishes tomorrow. I just got another half dozen consisting of Albarino, White Burgundy and Rioja Reserva.
Bruce - your Tiger Horse is on offer anyway. Get half a doz and you'll be paying less than £4 a bottle!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
'Lifestyle Hall' at Bolton Market for lunch again today. There's now a tapas restaurant in there, with 3 dishes for £5. They also gave us bread with aioli and a spicy dip and a little bowl of olives chucked in. Delicious and bloody cheap.
