Those people who have comfortable 30 minute drives to work in other parts of the country would not envy my commute, I am sure.resigning in a week.Organising yourselves accordingly.

Re: The Politics Thread
Well, for me, when I'm in the office I have a leisurely drive in through the Lancashire countryside that takes around 30 minutes. However, when 'm not in the office then the exact opposite ensues - getting to the airport at 03:30, or being in Gasgow for 09:00 for instance. You organise yourself in accordance with whatever it is that you do and to be wherever it is that you need to be for whenever it is that you need to be there for.bwfcdan94 wrote:It is, Im stuck.

I've based where I live down here so I can walk to work. I never felt the need to do that when back home. There are plenty things this that London gets far better than the rest of the country. Commuter transport is not one.

Exactly Bruce. London is full of moaning c*nts who have obviously never had to rely on what passes for public transport "in the provinces".Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, for me, when I'm in the office I have a leisurely drive in through the Lancashire countryside that takes around 30 minutes. Ok.
You're concerned about Bish's access to public transport.
What would you propose setting up wherever he is in the South West? What would make good economic sense to you?

Free buses every 5 minutes to the high paid government jobs that have now relocated to The South West. Supply and demand, the multiplier effect all in one.

I had to walk a mile an 'alf! To the once hourly train. That was a pain, but I got a seat, coz no f*cker used it. You plan around it, and you're fine. You need to get to somewhere on the central line before half ten and you're on a wing and a prayer.Bruce Rioja wrote:But you had to walk six miles to the nearest bus stop................................. I lived only five miles from where I worked but it takes an hour by BMW in rush hour. In Montreal BMW is public transport - Bus, Metro, Walk. So that was two hours out of my life each day. When I used to drive it was only twice as quick given the traffic.Prufrock wrote:I've based where I live down here so I can walk to work. I never felt the need to do that when back home. Let's say you're successful in moving high-paid government jobs several hours out of London and away from the, erm, government... wouldn't they all just drive their cars and ignore the buses?Lord Kangana wrote:Free buses every 5 minutes to the high paid government jobs that have now relocated to The South West. Re: The Politics Thread
I can see this discussion being more difficult than it needs to be. Tell me, in our genetic coding, where does it say where government is? Perhaps the invention of the Internet and telecommunications have been abolished? I know plenty of people in plenty of businesses who manage to communicate across continents, let alone across bloody postcodes. I also happen to know a couple of Civil Servants. They are (at our expense, remember) regularly required to travel to London. Which, and I'm hoping this is a point thats easily understood, is utterly ludicrous, considering they have high-tech tele- and video-conferencing facilities that they use to communicate with the next county.
The real reason that core government jobs remain in the capital has nothing to do with the reasons you're arguing. Though it does become a convenient excuse for the argument you wish to pursue.

Re: The Politics Thread
if anyone is building some infrastructure down here for me, what would be useful is a big fat motorway along the south coast and/or a railway doing the same so that to get to brighton you don't first have to go up to Birmingham and then back down via Middlesbrough...

We normally go along the coast from Sussex to Devon, quicker then going up to Heathrow and then down...thebish wrote:if anyone is building some infrastructure down here for me, what would be useful is a big fat motorway along the south coast and/or a railway doing the same so that to get to brighton you don't first have to go up to Birmingham and then back down via Middlesbrough...
Are you coming to see me then?!

Re: The Politics Thread
my mother lives in milford on sea... torquay to milford-on-sea along the south coast - is a mere 120miles, yet it usually takes over three hours averaging less than 40MPH...
going north using a motorway, I could easily be in Birmingham in the same time.. (180miles) or further if I did not stick to speed limits...
