When matey boy and I were in a few weeks ago, Bobo, the Landlord came over mithering us. He's a proper Walter Mitty. Shame really as otherwise he's a nice guy.

Keyzer. That Davinas would be a good start. And I can't fault pizza express. But you just gotta check the website, there are loads, esp in London. Chico Bandito was another we had 50% off at! bang on!
Pru. Really glad you liked it. Didn't mention the free liquor because I thought it'd be a nice surprise. They come and ask your choice of liquor sometimes. We were there the other week, it was my dad's birthday. We had 2 bottles of wine and they gifted us a 3rd!! Was £28 tackle too! Still got the brandies after n'all.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Just checked out the menu for La Davina and reckon I could make my way through pretty much most of it. Not sure how I could manufacture a meal that far North, when the wife's sister lives out near Stansted. Wonder if I could lure them there with the prospect of a double tastecard discount? Hmmmmm!!!General Mannerheim wrote:Keyzer. That Davinas would be a good start. And I can't fault pizza express. But you just gotta check the website, there are loads, esp in London. By the way, London types, have I ever mentioned the King Edward VII (Or King Eddie's as it's better known) in Stratford. Long before the London Olympics I had to stay in Stratford quite a lot, the high-point being this place. An old London boozer with some very decent ales on, you go through the back behind the bar into the dining room, lovely place. The menu is fairly small and looks generally straightforward but OMG can they cook?! And it's cheap, certainly in relation to them there fancy London prices. Do give it a go if you're out that way. Well worth an evening of your life. http://www.kingeddie.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
After the theatre matinee at the Royal Exchange (ending at 6.50) we really fancies tapas. Drew a blank at Sandinista, Evuna and El Rincon - all stuffed - but found only a 20 min wait and welcoming bar at La Vina on Deansgate.
We really enjoyed - food fine, if not outstanding, but the buzz was good, the service prompt and attentive. The wine though was less than great - a Valdepenas that was pretty rough and a nondescript white Rioja.
If wine is your thing, the house red at Evuna (a Duero iirc) is far and away the best of the four tapas places above. And Evuna's food stands up to the others (though El Rincon may just edge it).

I've suggested Tayyab's to the wife's sister, however, I've just been reading some online reviews. I have to be honest and say that they're not too great. Small portions, salty food, rude staff and mouse droppings to mention but a few.
I'm not too sure now.

Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating; 3 out of 5, BP. They call that 'Generally Satisfactory'. I don't.Burnden Paddock wrote:I've suggested Tayyab's to the wife's sister, however, I've just been reading some online reviews. I have to be honest and say that they're not too great. Cheers. The FSA ratings are usually my first port of call. No excuse for not having a 4 or 5 imho.Bruce Rioja wrote:Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating; 3 out of 5, BP. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
flippin eck. not sure about mouse droppings, but the staff are pretty rude and impatient come to think about it. small portions? maybe but we have always ordered loads as its not the stuff you recognise from the Balti Palace, the starters particularly are tremendous and plentiful. never noticed it to be salty either, its not like they're trying to flog you booze? its cramped tho and they do rush you in and out, but thats fine by me - i prefer to have my fill and piss off somewhere else.Burnden Paddock wrote:I've suggested Tayyab's to the wife's sister, however, I've just been reading some online reviews. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Brick Lane on Saturday night. We all agreed that it was one of the tastiest curries that we have ever had. Popadoms, starters and mains with a few beers and glasses came to £90 for the four of us.
Returned to the hotel for cocktails and then back to the room, to find a hand written note from the manager, apologising for the delay in sending our bags up to the room. It wasn't even a problem tbh, but the bottle of red and two glasses was a nice touch. She even requested that she speak to me face to face, to apologise in person when we checked out.
Walked down Brick Lane yesterday and was mesmerised by all of the different food stalls. Pity we'd just eaten breakfast.
Had a beer at Boxpark in Shoreditch on both days. Good selection of food and beers on sale. Wouldn't have minded staying and sampling the food. Shame we had to get the train home.

£22.50 each including drinks? That's pretty good value, I'd say.Bijou Bob wrote:Blimey, that's them there London prices right thereBurnden Paddock wrote:Brick Lane on Saturday night. Just had a week in El Porello, near Tarragona, and experienced Menu Del Dia in four different restaurants.Gary the Enfield wrote:£22.50 each including drinks? Typically, I was offered a green salad or juice to start, tuna salad which was a meal unto itself, followed by chicken or steak and chips and then a pud of soft goats cheese smothered in honey and walnuts (can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was delicious!) plus a bottle of wine. Here the wine would no doubt be up for £18 on its own but there, inclusivo, the lot for 11 euros. I ate and drank like a king for a week!
