They weren't 10p frozen ring-piece and eye-lid burgers! They were mince with a bit of salt a pepper. The 'burger fat' is just the juice that you leave in a bolognese or a chili, and the stuff you try to sear in coz it's got all the flavour in. It tasted like burgery beef gravy, and was amazing, so feck your Honda Civic, sir!BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm missing sommat here, what is the flour doing? You made a sauce out of the burger fat?Prufrock wrote:Simple salad with a bit of pizza express dressing. Stuck on top two quarter pounders with a bit of cheddar on top of them. Teaspoon of flour into the pan after and poured all over. Washed down with an ice cold Estrella. Sometimes it's the simple things.

Sunday tea will be Aldi 28 day matured beef joint, with Mrs BP's massive Yorkshire's (fnaarr), roast spuds, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower. Do I wash it down with the Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon or the Australian Malbec? Decisions, decisions!
Got the taste buds sort of going, with a bag of mini cheddars and a few thick slices of mature cheddar.

The Cab Sauv or the Malbec for me, BP. Not familiar with Australian Malbec but if it's owt like the Argentinian stuff then I recon I'd go with that.
Got a lamb shank going in the slow cooker just now in lamb stock with red wine (I managed to overcome my mental block and used the Cotes du Rhone Grenache-Syra that I'll be drinking with it in the sauce) a half a bulb of William's garden garlic and a load of rosemary. Problem is that it won't be ready for bloody ages.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
We have son #2 back for a long weekend as he prepares to tear himself away from Cardiff before moving to that London.
So, just now ... asparagus spears, soft boiled egg and some crisp fried smoked bacon and chorizo. Lovely light lunch eaten in the rather warm garden.
Tonight, it's a rib of beef roasties, mash and long-stem broccoli with Yorkshires and my very best beef & red wine gravy from the pan. Then summer pudding with clotted cream. I suspect strong red wine to go with the beef and a pudding wine for the afters.
There will be plenty, so if anyone's passing your quite welcome.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Did a Sunday roast for the first time in ages. Corn fed chicken, roast potatoes and parsnip, broad beans and garlic scapes from the garden.
She made a wimberry pie. ice cream and cream.
A bottle of Chilean pinot noir, gran reserva, went very well, thank you (affordable because of Morrison's 25% off six bottles of wine offer, now, sadly, ended).

I've had a very busy and eventful day and only just finished my tea; some pizza Mrs H kindly left for me drying out in the oven for the last couple of hours.bobo the clown wrote:We have son #2 back for a long weekend as he prepares to tear himself away from Cardiff before moving to that London.

If I'd have seen your invite earlier, I'd have been round like a shot.
Is there any left?
Hope is what keeps us going.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Had my parents down for a few days and, after a hard day's tourism we went to Green Park for an hour to chill until we decided what we wanted for tea.
Eventually (as we were round the corner) we opted for the Hard Rock Café (I had my 7 year old great nephew in tow too). With a fairly daunting queue and a rapidly tiring Mother and Father we decided to head back to the car which we'd parked round the corner literally outside a Spanish Restaurant. Not relishing the prospect of driving around trying to find somewhere to park we opted to go in. So pleased we did.
Four and a half of us ordered the two Tapas menus for 2 people. It was fantastic.
Soft deep fried squid/ stuffed peppers/ Albondigas/ Croquettes/ omelette/ mushrooms etc. etc. etc.
Total bill including drinks cost less than £100 and was definitely worth more.
Didn't try the wines as I was driving but the table next to us enjoyed a selection and seemed very happy with the sommelier's recommendations.

Dying to try a good authentic Spanish restaurant, likewise Greek. Shouldn't have to look far in old smokey...
Green park tho, you should've maybe tried the Punch Bowl. Bang on in there! Not get much for £100 tho I wouldn't have thought...

Have you tried Navarros on Charlotte St General? It's not on the main drag, but the other side of Goodge St. Family run, decent prices and the food is good. The sangria is very good, but not on the menu, so you have to ask.

Tat whole area around Goodge St. is a revelation. Like London 30 years ago. Lots of small, non-chain family restaurants. A real relief from the chain domination.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Have you tried Navarros on Charlotte St General? Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Sadly there seems to be some chains creeping in. I used to work a minute round the corner from there and it is definitely my favourite part of London to work. Loads of proper pubs, decent grub and fewer tourists.bobo the clown wrote:Tat whole area around Goodge St. is a revelation. Like London 30 years ago. Lots of small, non-chain family restaurants. Only problem is that all the pubs shut at bastard 11 on the dot. Is an ace bit of town though. Didn't realise in first year of uni with halls 2 mins from Goodge St that the whole of London wasn't like that!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
5 Guys for lunch. It was pretty good food-wise (it's another of those burger places) but f*cking £13 for a chesseburger chips and drink?! Get fooked.
That and yet another matey wanker set-up. Multi-million pound corporations need to stop pretending they want to be my friend, or back it up with cash-money gifts.
