Allegedly Lennon 'gave' Dylan a minor nervous breakdown when they met, as the Yank was overwhelmed by Lennons profound genius. Personally, I think Saint John was a bit of a cock at times. Liked his music though.....but all the catchy ones ar McCartney's.

I like the story about Dylan being amazed they'd never smoked dope (theretofore having preferred stimulants to sedatives). "But what about in I Want To Hold Your Hand... 'I get high, I get high, I get high'?" Sheepish looks as none of them wanted to say the lyric was "I can't hide"... Oh and you're right about McCartney's melodies being more vertical than Lennon's horizontal drawls, like the first 10 notes of Help!...

It's a shame that the chap who murdered John Lennon was such a raving Todd Rundgren fan.

doesnt mean you cant debate it though, people have preferences, and ideas of what is important or influential, and as long as they can back them up you have a recipe for good debate. there doesnt need to be the possibility of a definite solution to have a good debate

Influence is an almost impossible thing to measure.

Dare say SClub7 were infleuntial in their own genre and own way.

IMO Dylan was a million times more influential than the Beatles.
I'm sort of with you on this one DSB, but I would possibly contend that SClub7 and the likes are hugely influential - not for the better (IMO)...I'm sure some of their tunes would convince plenty of people who got a stylophone for Christmas that they could easily become the next Stock, Aitken or Waterman just by churning out (what is to me) drivel, and plenty of very impressionable pre-school kids that this is the way music should be.

Fo' sho', they influenced a new wave of pre-teen pap, but that's been going about for decades, too. I meant Influential with a capital I, in a Mojo kinda way.

The media are the biggest culprits for churning out pap-pop and not concentrating on a more overall picture. Power of the quixk buck and bugger the quality, sort of thing.

Sure are. We should stop watching the phone-vote talent shows. That'll learn 'em.

Lets go one step further and shoot anyone who phones a vote in....

Thats not the main aim, but it would be a happy side affect - if only to keep their Champions League 'commentators' of the TV.
