I dont think she's a particularly amazing public speaker but she has the balls to stand up to the government, to stand up for what she believes in, and there is very little she says i disagree with. There's an interesting interview with her by William Crawley on youtube which i would urge anyone doubting the principles of human rights, and who might lazily state it is there to help terrorists, to watch

Exactly, girl's got balls! I agree with the vast majority of what she says, and she doesnt take any shiiiit. Not afraid to take up individual politicians and individual decisions instead of the vague waffery of spin.ratbert wrote:Shami's heart's in the right place, even if her brain always isn't...
...but she riles the righties, which is good enough for me

It's the disaproval of the lefties i don't get.ratbert wrote:I think it's because some of her comments can be construed as demanding rights for criminals many think they don't deserve.
I can see why righties disagree, and as a human rights activist she's an easy target, but i don't get the dislike. I don't get how she is demanding stuff folk don't think people deserve. She is a qualified barrister and an expert on human rights, she knows what she is talking about. I dont get the problem, she only demands rights ascribed by law. It's like when people demand rapists and child killers be shot. I understand the hatred and the desire to attack these people, but the laws are there as they are supposed to be fitting punishments. If people have problems with these laws why don't they do something. Join pressure groups for longer sentences, petition their MP's etc. In all the interviews and speeches i have seen as her she comes across as someone with her heart in the right place, who has never tried to morally justify the actions of terrorists and criminals, only to demand they be treated according the laws democratic society has prescribed.

Maybe a lot of people think killers, rapist and people who blow up their families arent too high in their priority stakes for being treated as anything but what they are.Prufrock wrote: who has never tried to morally justify the actions of terrorists and criminals, only to demand they be treated according the laws democratic society has prescribed.
