Where would you emigrate to

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Inbred.
Ah, now I know it very well indeed.

It's Welsh (which is OK) as opposed to Cymraeg (which, emphatically, is not).

Llan' is a bit of a one-horse town but there's enough going on, plenty of outside recreation with climbing, walking, kayaking (!!) and yet only 30m from Chester and Shrewsbury. A few too many tree-huggers move in but the locals keep them in their place. Can get very busy at weekends from Easter to September.

There's a serious drinking culture in the town. (& I mean serious, drinkers abound and it can be a bit Wild-West on a Friday/Saturday night.)

If anyone ever needs a tour round Hopeless & I would be happy to oblige.
How very dare you. :spank:
Hope is what keeps us going.

No I'm not, where is that butty shop?

On the odd and rare occasions I visit Bolton I liked having my breakfast in the shop on the same street as the co-op bank bear the new market hall. I think it's closed down now :(

Ciao Napoli is still going though :D

I'd want a mountainous lakeside location, where I can ride mountain bikes or play on boats all summer and go skiing or boarding all winter. So Canada I suppose.

Or, alternatively General: Switzerland, north Italy, Japan, Alaskan panhandle, Georgia (the country not the US state), Norway, and Mongolia. Congrats on the kid by the way.

Why, thank you Pru. Interesting 7 much agreed with by myself.

Except I'd point out to Mr. Victoria Coren (*bastard) there are no-where near 600,000 Welsh speakers and the only people in Wales who don't speak English are Mozambique's, Indian, Pakistani's, Arabic, etc. Certainly no Welsh.

A recent Freedom of Information request showed that a national Pensions query system was set up in a bi-lingual manner and after a year 0.07% of query's were in Welsh.

There are a fair number of programmes on S4C which get such low viewers that the watching figures are statistically zero.

If you use a cash point here the first question you are asked is which language do you want to use ... so I asked a mate who's manager of the **** (un-named major High Street Bank) in Wrexham what the figures were and he said all employees were under instruction not to give out the figure as it would be too controversial.

However, he indicated that, for the whole of 2011 ... all 365 days of it ... I would need more than my figures to count it .... but I wouldn't need to use all of my toes after that. Given that I have a standard number of digits that's more than 10, yet less than 20 ... in a year.

The point I'm making is that even Welsh speakers, who have forced lots & lots of very costly legislation and implementations, who cost people their jobs don't, actually, opt to use the language when in private and not making some form of point.

How would anyone working in a bank have statistics for 365 days of the year? You're lucky if they're open even half of that time. I have my doubts as to the veracity of his claim.

Odessa is opposite the old HMV shop.

I wouldn't eat again in Ciao Napoli if they paid me, the bent feckers.

On thread. I'd love to live in a small French village with markets with plenty of fresh local. Alternatively, spend part of the year travelling around this country, or Europe on a canal boat.

It was stats from their cash machine. It was a whole years stats for choice "Cymraeg" as the language to use for the continuing transaction. It was in Wrexham where, in reality, Welsh is the 4th language ... after English, Polish and Portuguese ... yet has mahoosive amounts of time & money spent on it.

I have no proof other than the manager who I have no reason to doubt.

I knew as much, but couldn't resist being a little flippant.

Think I've mentioned my experience with Ciao Napoli on here before. Never been that keen on the place tbh, very average. But the last time I was there I ordered the same starter as the person sitting opposite me. For some reason mine looked completely different from his and resembled a pile of shite and was sent back. I'd also ordered a peroni, which arrived at the table opened. I poured it and took a sip and it quite clearly wasn't peroni. It was flatter than a witches tit and completely the wrong colour. Took it to the bar and the barman said he'd bring another one over. I told him he could open it in front of me, so that I could be sure that it was actually peroni. Not sure why I was singled out, but i've never been treated like that in any restaurant before or since. Wankers.

Should your interests revolve around language then might I suggest that you migrate to this fair country?

As best I can gather the experts in the field estimate that there are (or were) over 600 tongues spoken among the native population. Because they were neighbours many shared some aspects of the language but, the further the distance between tribes/communities the greater the difference in language. I suppose it's like discussing the meaning of a 'barm' in the various tribal areas of England.

We always go to a village by the name of Clynnog Fawr, which is in between Caernarfon and Pwlhelli. Some of the villages are lovely, very close to the sea and the Llyn peninsula does seem to get some excellent weather. We've always found the folk to be really friendly but whether that would be the same if you were a neighbour I don't know.

Welsh is pretty much spoken everywhere now, even amongst the young so I imagine it would be worth learning if you were to live there permanently.
Oh, Harry. Bless you ... you crack me up.

The Cymraeg see Welsh as entry to their world. They piss on people who don't speak it ... & they piss on learners. Try as you might you'd always be seen as an incomer, buying "their" houses, making homes unaffordable for "their people". The only people they loathe more than the Saesnaeg ~(English) are the 'plastic Welsh' of Granada-land (think Clwyd. Welsh people who speak little or no Welsh) and the South Welsh who they view as having betrayed them and their aspirations far too often.

Welsh is barely heard outside North West Wales ... where you go..... bits of Pembroke/Swansea area, and pockets here & there and some 'intellectuals'.

The "Welsh" qualification they boast that so many now have (see Hopeful above) has been watered down from the language to Welsh in general. History, geography, culture and a bit of language. That's fine & well, but don't be fooled into thinking the 5 wasted years give you the language. They don't, but it allows the Government to say x'% have "a qualification in Welsh" when doing their stats.

They are as racist as any group you will ever meet and will waste no time whatsoever trouncing someone they feel doesn't belong. Language is all and learning it ... or trying to ... will get you nowhere. Stick to the holidays.
Sounds like parts of Ireland I've lived in. I could regale, but it's baggage I'd rather stay shed.
