Went to the big easy in Covent Garden as previously mentioned by bobo. Thursday is steak and lobster night. Half a lobster, steak and chips with beer of slushie cocktail for 20 quid. 3 had that. 2 shared a mixed bbq platter thing (ribs, chicken and pulled pork with fries and sides) which the two of them couldn't finish, and 1 had mixed seafood (shrimp, crab claws, mussels, clams). Thankfully nobody else else wanted a starter as I was paying but came to 160 with tip for 6 people. The live blues music was ace too, and not so loud you couldn't have a conversation. He bar also seems to have a ridiculous selection of spirits.

Aye it's good, went a few weeks ago. Liked it, good food, good beer, though found the staff a bit 'matey' if you knwo what i mean. Not really a complaint though, must say

I see that it's the return of the Food Festival this weekend.

I'm glad that it does so well, apparently, for our moribund town centre.

Anyone going? I've been down in the past and found it to be just like a big farmers market, which means I tend to come away empty handed.

The guy who runs the Cameroonian place in the market will be in attendance, running a takeaway stand 'Nkono'. Give it a go. Its bloody good stuff. Tell him that his biggest investor sent you!

Last night rather than tonight, and not your actual gourmet gnoshery meal. Went to the Robin Hood at Clifton ( a Flaming Grill establishment). Been before on a family do and it's fine for that sort of thing). Party of sixteen of us as a surprise do for the wife's midweek birthday. Steak isn't the rarity luxury it once was and I went for the "Codfather" . Wholesome enough and fine for the hungry traveller. Wife reckons her sirloin steak was tasty and nobody left anything. Would class it reasonable in price and quality. Had a Strongbow or two to wash it down.

Was treated to an evening at Square One in Dunmow last night, by the wife's sister and her husband for mybirthday. A small menu of around 8 starters and mains, all of which i would happily have chosen. Went for a starter of scallops with celeriac truffle puree, black pudding and apple crisp which was fantastic. Small, but very tasty scallops with perfect accompaniments. Superb!
Main was roast pork tenderloin, with parmentier potatoes, pulled pork apricot and pistachio roulade. With broad beans and smoked bacon. One of the tastiest, if not the tastiest dish that i've ever eaten!
Dessert was a simple, but delicious strawberry sorbet
I'd definitely go back there. Particularly if someone else was paying!
