It was MEANT to wake you, ffs !!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

And I'd have shone a bright light right back at them too if it we're for these light-free bulbs!

May the bridges I burn light your way

I had one like that not long ago. What pxssed me off was I'd taken the bxstard library books back the day before.bobo the clown wrote:... hovering 30ft above your house, with a super-bright spot shining into your window and a megaphone amplifying the words "C'mon out Bruce ... & bring your shirt with you".Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh, and I'll tell you what I was angry about this morning at 03:00, being woken up by a helicopter, presumably the Police helicopter. On top of cider, this country will seemingly be pulled back from the economic abyss by Bingo, in-play-market gambling and 4-zillion-percent-legalised-loan-sharking loans.
They're the only bastards who seem to be able to advertise anymore, anyway.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Well, Bobo, I suppose there could be a difference between British and North American versions since we use 110 volts to your 220. How do we know how much electricity they use? Well, these things are tested by consumer agencies and scientists. Still I should consult the modern oracle:bobo the clown wrote:Clearly .... or rather, dimmly .... not coz these bleeding things can not, in any way, be described as "as bright as", nor do they last any longer than ordinary ones & truthfully, how on God's Earth do you know how much 'leccy they use ?Montreal Wanderer wrote:Are you referring to compact fluorescent lights, Bobo?
I find them as bright or brighter than ordinary incandescent bulbs, last many times longer and take less than half the power. True, there is a half second pause before they come on. I have never had to dispose of one because I've never had one burn out.
These conk out, are dull ... & though they brighten, never get to 'bright', can't be put on a dimmer switch (conveniently got around by never being required to), cost more and I now hear cannot be environmentally disposed of with current science.
The there is this:Wikipedia says contrary to Bobo's assertions wrote:A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), also called compact fluorescent light, energy-saving light, and compact fluorescent tube, is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent lamp; some types fit into light fixtures formerly used for incandescent lamps. The lamps use a tube which is curved or folded to fit into the space of an incandescent bulb, and a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp.
Compared to general-service incandescent lamps giving the same amount of visible light, CFLs use one-fifth to one-third the electric power, and last eight to fifteen times longer. A CFL has a higher purchase price than an incandescent lamp, but can save over five times its purchase price in electricity costs over the lamp's lifetime.[2] Like all fluorescent lamps, CFLs contain mercury, which complicates their disposal. In many countries, governments have established recycling schemes for CFLs and glass generally.
CFLs radiate a spectral power distribution that is different from that of incandescent lamps. Improved phosphor formulations have improved the perceived colour of the light emitted by CFLs, such that some sources rate the best "soft white" CFLs as subjectively similar in colour to standard incandescent lamps.

An activist who took part in a protest against the construction of an Olympic facility says he has been handed a court order banning him from approaching any Olympic venue, activity or official.
The interim antisocial behaviour order (asbo) given to Simon Moore, 29, is believed to be the first pre-emptive Olympic asbo requested by Scotland Yard to prevent protests at the Games. It also bars Moore from going near events to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee, the trooping of the colour and the state opening of parliament.

The light bulb thing is all to do with your age. We need twice as much light when we are 50 as we did when we were 30.
So in other words you are all old farts. Get use to it.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
With electric costs being what they are, ( and will almost certainly keep increasing ) energy-saving bulbs have to be an answer. They certainly last a whole lot longer than the old type. Guess I've just got used to them, but light-wise and overall cost wise, I find them a decided improvement.

There you go! Another older geezer than Bobo who doesn't mind them. Bobo is just a young, thoughtless energy hog.TANGODANCER wrote:With electric costs being what they are, ( and will almost certainly keep increasing ) energy-saving bulbs have to be an answer. In all seriousness I must admit I need more light these days than I use to. I work from home and have recently had to replace my office light bulb (Energy efficient I may add) with a higher wattage one.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Hang on a minute - I was defending the things and I'm a lot older than young Bobo (Much more mature too)malcd1 wrote:The light bulb thing is all to do with your age. Fair enough - but you could do it with a higher wattage energy efficient one, n'est-ce pas? Personally I would find longer arms more useful in reading, though they don't seem to be readily available.malcd1 wrote:In all seriousness I must admit I need more light these days than I use to. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
he may well be, Bobo - but do you really think that such sweeping powers over protesters is a good idea? We cannot applaud when unlikeable knob-head protesters are treated like this - and then later on complain when we find that a government is using such powers to prevent legitimate protest against its own activities... if you don't think they would - then I'd diagnose early onset of senile naivity!! (it wasn't that long ago that an 80-odd yr old bloke was detained under the powers of the terrorism act for heckling Jack Straw at a Labour Party conference...)bobo the clown wrote:No. He's a free-loading, attention seeking social inadequate.thebish wrote:surely this is utterly, ludicrously and completely over the top?????
