Might well have normally, but I'm just late to the party... it's been strange times for our family recently and I've not watched much of anything...General Mannerheim wrote:am i missing summat here, or are you just late to the party? id have thought you would've been all over it first time round, bill? belting tho int it.William the White wrote:More Boardwalk Empire...

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Tonight watched Oranges and Sunshine by Jim Loach, son of the indefatigable Ken Loach, and clearly a chip off the old block...
The heartbreaking story of the deportation of thousands of children to australia over decades, to, often, grim and abusive fates, and of the Nottingham social worker who discovered it by accident and went on to devote her life to exposing and righting the wrong...
A good film, heart on sleeve, but a story that deserves telling and telling again...

The good people are sending me summat called Dead Man Walking, which I believe is a very good film - although I've just noticed that it's got Mr Madonna in it, so I'll require some convincing!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Watching The Fisherman's Apprentice. You know, if you could do a job swap just for a week, I'd love to work on a trawler / fishing boat.

Watched BBC4 on Venice (again)... I've never been, I must do it... And then on Flinders Petrie, great name, the man who 'discovered' Egypt... Who turned out to be a brill archaeologist and another 'intellectual' fooled by the phony science of eugenics.
BBC4 once more preventing me deciding on the next book... Great channel...

Venice is well worth the trip, but when I last went - about a lifetime ago - it didn't half pong (it was fairly warm)William the White wrote:Watched BBC4 on Venice (again)... I ended up watching BBC4 last week all night, when they had a load of programmes on about Prog Rock. It were grand.
As an aside, I ended up watching Import Export last night which was a dubbed film. Hadn't intended watching it, was still working with it on in the background, but ended up getting drawn in. It was fairly emotive about two young peeps (a Ukranian seeking work in Austria and an Austrian who took work in Ukraine in two drudgeworthy jobs in really poor surroundings and how it all panned out for them). Some really bizarre cinematography...
