it's all very effective, though - divide and rule... tell the private sector that they are lining the nests of the fat-cat nurses and policemen with gold braid.... it seems to work...

Yeah and that is what stuns me, that people fall for it.thebish wrote:it's all very effective, though - divide and rule... tell the private sector that they are lining the nests of the fat-cat nurses and policemen with gold braid.... it seems to work...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I'm not sure I understand that, Bobo. Over here management would generally prefer fewer workers and a longer week, because each worker costs an additional 20% in benefits (pensions, health insurance, unemployment insurance, etc) whether they work thirty or forty hours. This of course assumes no exorbitant costs for overtime.bobo the clown wrote:I was only pointing out that the view that trade unions were largely a thing of the past and, indeed mere "paper tigers" was in fact a misconception.
The points about the public sector pensions & defence of them, while a worthy discussion are a separate issue ... albeit the sector's unions are very vociferous indeed ... Showing my point, to an extent I suppose.
In the 'industrial' and private sectors however, be aware that the current trends are very much with increasing beligerence and militancy. The thing many won't appreciate is that the fact although there's a financial crisis & many Companies are on their knees is not affecting the attitudes of workers where things are going quite (even very) well. I am witnessing, daily, attitudes remaniscent of the 70's. To a point where I fear that any true recovery would be difficult to sustain as any successful company as ripe for attack by increasingly miltant union leadership.
You may, dependant upon your general view od such matters say "fair enough". Fine. But don't pretend the average worker views the bigger picture. They look after themselves. A recent fall-out was about a Comany's preference to recruit more employees rather than have the current workforce work longer & longer hours. The workforce simply wanted more hours (& hence money) and balloted for action on that.
Socialism in action ? Not really.

You're applauding the wrong thing here Hoss. What you need is the financial services community to go on strike. They're the one's that caused the debt in the first place.CrazyHorse wrote:Well I'd like to offer my thanks once again to the strikers. Those public sector wages that were saved will chip another chunk off the debt, meaning my future required contribution has now reduced.
Please, go on strike more often brothers and we'll soon get this deficit paid off.

It wasn't really just a dog that won it though, was it? That suggests that I could pitch up with our Oscar, who's as thick as a pale of shit and win it. I didn't see the final but from what I did see of BGT, for me, it was between the Irish lad with the guitar (who, if he has an album out I'll happily buy) and Ashleigh and Pudsey. One assumes that Hoboh's done nothing more than picked up his usual Sunday morning inflamer and come on here sounding off.

An old schoolmate, a good footballer, died a couple of weeks back. Saw him in an amateur capacity once and told him we'd just won 10-0. He replied: "The only game worth winning is one you win by the odd goal against a team as good or better then your own". Always remembered that.jimbo wrote:Just won 22-1 at 5 aside. Boring.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I completely agree. Play 4 times a week, and there's nothing better than a tough, well matched game. Tonight we travelled half an hour away, paid a fiver each, and barely broke sweat. Easy to pick up bad habits in games like that as well.TANGODANCER wrote:An old schoolmate, a good footballer, died a couple of weeks back. I've been finishing here in "a couple of months time" for three years now. I've really not got long left now.

Four day week for the factory floor and enforced use of holidays for us (or four days unpaid leave if you've none left).CrazyHorse wrote:Same boat as you fella.Bijou Bob wrote:The Fat Lady isn't quite singing over my job contract yet, but the cow is clearing her throat and doing her scales.

I arrived in Porto last night. Yesterday it was 28 degrees and bright sunshine. Today it is 15 degrees and rain. It will stay like that until the day after I leave, when it will again be 28 degrees and bright sunshine.
