Re: Summer Holidays
And now for a few days with the brakes firmly on, where phones receive no signal and where the internet doesn't exist. Cricket, fine wine, good company and nothing to collect but my thoughts. Taunton it is then.

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Summer Holidays
I got in at 4 last night but dragged myself onto the boat. Well worth it. A bit tacky yes but having fun. Saw the Mega Diana, we're on a similar one.
...
Re: Summer Holidays
just back from my summer hols - 2 weeks in the Lakes. am very mellow (or at least I was until I listened to the last day of the test match on the way home..)
Re: Summer Holidays
You haven't missed much, Bish. Nothing has happened except we have missed out on signing The Juke who will be playing for Burnley next season. That is it.
Welcome back.
Welcome back.

Re: Summer Holidays
Thought I recognised the view. Spent today in the South Lakes, including the customary visit to the Grasmere gingerbread shop.thebish wrote:aye - as it says on my fb feed - "View from Cat Bells obscured by fat bloke in a hat!"malcd1 wrote:A beautiful view. Pity you got that fat bloke in the photo.

Re: Summer Holidays
ahh yes - went there - after a delightful lunch by the river at that cafe on the bridge opposite the parish church... (and then the obligatory visit to Dove Cottage) - followed by the MUCH more interesting visit up the hill to the house that Wordsworth rented from a Northern Industrialist - the house (not the industrialist) is called Allan Bank.Burnden Paddock wrote:Thought I recognised the view. it has nowt of wordsworth's in there - it was a hippy colony for a while - then a private rent - then got gutted by fire - and is now a big empty house with utterly fantastic views... the NT is wondering what to do with it...

Thinking of going to Edinburgh for a few days next weekend, will there be much on this time of year?

Re: Summer Holidays
Go for it then. I used to be up there for a softball tournament every august bank hol. We used to have to book digs practically a year ahead to keep the team together. Always had a good laugh.Beefheart wrote:I've got some friends putting a show on so I've got somewhere to crash for freeAbdoulaye's Twin wrote:Very busy and accommodation even dearer than normal. Re: Summer Holidays
Just back from a week in Elmau, Austria. Can highly recommend it as a summer holiday destination, some great walking, arguably the world's best beer and it's immaculately clean. 4 weeks (and counting) in work now until I depart for Portugal

Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Re: Summer Holidays
Ah, but the University offer rooms and breakfast at Pollock Hall about a mile south of the centre for £35p night. Loads of availability. A bit more basic than a flashy hotel but great value.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Summer Holidays
Ahhh, but we softball players need to be city centre. By the time we get off the pitches, drinking time has been limited and we really need to be thinking about sleep by 3am to be capable of being ready for next days play (and queuing up for a bacon butty at the van next to the pitches)bobo the clown wrote:Ah, but the University offer rooms and breakfast at Pollock Hall about a mile south of the centre for £35p night. Just back from a few days in The Lakes. When the sun shines, there's no other place I'd rather be.
