You bar steward! I just looked at the menu and thought that looks good I wonder where that restaurant is in the north west.Prufrock wrote:Scallops and pig generally is amazing.

Tomorrow is our Christmas do, going to a Turkish place in Angel which didn't seem to do anything obviously Turkish on its menu... I'm having King Prawns, Lamb Shank, and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Then, even better, on Thurs I'm off out again to the best food place I've ever been, seeing if it can knock one of its own entries out of my top 3 meals I've ever eaten:

No real interest in cooking as the wife spoils me in that department, but found this and thought: "I'll be having a dab at that myself".

In the season of rich foods, let us not forget the first thing Good King Wenceslas took to yonder peasant on Christmas Eve. Now officially recognised by Wickipedia, I post this to reminder all good Wanderers supporters across the globe of our national treasure :
"A pasty barm is a delicacy native to Bolton, in Greater Manchester, England.[1][2] The pasty barm consists of a buttered barm (sometimes called barm cake) with a (standard meat and potato) pasty as the filling. The snack was voted as Bolton's favourite in the local newspaper Bolton News.[3] It has been mentioned by many celebrities including the boxer Amir Khan.[4] There is also a Facebook pasty barm appreciation group.[5]"

Whilst I agree there is no finer snack than yon, I think Bobo may have something to say about the constituent parts of said comestible.......

Well .... first & foremost that's not a barmcake. It's just a bun.
Then pastry in a bun .... I mean, really. Irregardless of it being a treehugger bread or not, just really !
At least it's not got sauce on it as well.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Kedgeree - just a real favourite.
A new (to me) white wine - Saint Joseph Terrasses from the Northern Rhone.
Was beautiful. Full. Aromatic.
Marsanne grape. at £14 a go a bit of a Christmas treat.
There will be more!

Agreed. I ate some of that for the first, and undoubtedly, only time a few months ago after spotting it at M&S on a shopping trip with Dad.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:William the White wrote:Kedgeree
The only saving grace was that it was consumed at his house and his microwave was left with the stench not mine.
Still are it all though, starving kids, Africa etc.

I spent many hours as a kid pushing cold flakes of fish and rice around my plate, under threat, that would probably get a parent locked up these days, if I didn't eat itLeverEnd wrote:Agreed. Like a scene from Spring and Port Wine. It'll be there for your breakfast in the morning.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Nearly Mrs Bob bought me a smoker for my birthday and as it's a quiet bank holiday, I'm giving it a go for the first time and smoking a full duck which I've marinaded in soy, ginger and maple syrup.
Tonight therefore, I'll either be eating smoked duck....or something quicK from the freezer, allowing me 3 hours to scrape the badly charred duck off the tray.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
It turned out ok. In future I'll use duck breasts rather than a full duck. Some salmon steaks next I think

My mate's Mrs has just rang. It's his Birthday in a couple of weeks so she was ringing to let me know that she's booked a table for a small group of us at The French in Manny. I've just taken the trouble to look at the menus and prices.
