Which is why James Stewart became Stewart Granger.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I can answer that, there must have been an equity member already called Colin Williams. There was a rule, don't know if it still exists, that stage names were unique.Bruce Rioja wrote:Colin Welland, the guy that wrote (and indeed won an Oscar for) the screenplay for Chariots of Fire. He was my Dad's best mate through their teen years in Newton le Willows. He was actually called Colin Williams, no-one ever explained to me why he used the name Welland.I'll ask Mum. RIP Colin.

Won't be known by anyone here but I've just found out a mate of mine was killed in Bulgaria last week following a rockfall. He and his friend were killed instantly and another member of the party survived and raised the alarm.
Ian was a good runner and triathlete and a friend.
R.I.P. mate.

Re: This weeks RIP's........
Really brings the tragedy home when it's someone you know. Used to work with a well-liked lad who hitch-hiked up to Scotland almost every week-end to climb mountains. One Monday he just never came back, got caught by the weather and was found frozen to death by the mountain rescue team. Everybody was in shock for days.Gary the Enfield wrote:Won't be known by anyone here but I've just found out a mate of mine was killed in Bulgaria last week following a rockfall. Not a big gambler, although I did used to have a small stakes punt fairly regularly, RIP Pat Eddery. If there was a yankee with 3 out of 4 already in, couldn't do much better than having Eddery on the last one!

Aye. Been reading about it earlier. I never knew that he was from some little place just outside Chesterfield. Tremendous thumper of the tubs. RIP.Il Pirate wrote:RIP Phil (Filthy Animal ) Taylor. Saeed Jaffrey, a splendid actor. I'd never have guessed that he was anything like 86. RIP.
