It is far more likely this is true than that his father went round a golf course in 18! I imagine these announcement are for domestic rather than international consumption.

It wasn't quite 18 tbf, but 34, including 11 holes-in-one. But my favourite bit about that story is that someone felt the need to add in the touch that it was also the first time he ever played golf! Outstanding!

I wonder what happened on the other seven holes that meant he needed 23 shots?

Six 2s, but then he nine-putted on the 18th like a right knob-head!

Finally something comes out of the labour party on it's EU stance and what a suprise, just about as bland a blind side as they can manage.

They've got to be seen to pander to the fruit cakes and racists a little bit.

I don't think their aim is to 'not upset us', but to get us to vote for them. It's working so far for me. Though I wish they'd stop pandering.

Have met him and have always thought the same.

I haven't, but I did a course with a girl who met him at the party conference and spoke about him in a hushed tone somewhere between reverence and love! I know you've said the politicians you've met have been charismatic, but surely someone like Eric Pickles isn't?!

As for DM, I like him (I like Ed too, tbf, I'm just not convinced he's got 'it'). Think he'd have been a better choice than Ed, though my personal politics at the time meant I was happy EM won.

DM was more than just charismatic. He had the sincerity and confidence of a bloke who knows he has an intellect and not just charm.

I'm sure Eric Pickles must have his own clubbable charm when you meet him. Possibly in an unorthodox way, like John Prescott.

Would DM not have simply been tarred with the "Blair mk2" brush? Unfairly perhaps but I think that might have happened.

Though I'd absolutely agree that his election chances were far greater than his brothers. Though that is a bit of a shame as EM is very intelligent and really it shouldn't be about "personality".
