Re: Where are you going tonight?
Poetry and new fiction reading at the octagon co-promoted by the University... John cassidy the poet - excellent poetry with a wistful feel to it, and dorothy nelson promoting her new novel Passing the Parcel - enjoyed the extracts very much.

You live in Wigan?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Nah then. I won't be going to R&J at The Octagon now as everyone else has dropped out having had bad reports from others that've been.
Anyone know how it's doing overall (WtW espesh)?

Re: Where are you going tonight?
I've only read one relatively poor review and that was in the last weekends Observer. Every other review I've read was good if not quite glowing.Bruce Rioja wrote:Nah then. I won't be going to R&J at The Octagon now as everyone else has dropped out having had bad reports from others that've been.

There are posts earlier in this thread from both WtW and myself and I think we agreed that we both enjoyed it very much indeed, especially Juliet who is worth going for all on her own. Shame to miss it, honestly.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Just been to have a look at both William and your takes on it, Clapton (sorry, not been around much for a bit), and given what you both have to say about it, it will indeed be a shame to miss it. I tend to value the opinion the both of you on these matters more than I ever would that of a journo. I'm perhaps even more intruiged by it now.clapton is god wrote:I've only read one relatively poor review and that was in the last weekends Observer. My mate and co-writer has moved to Nangreaves and Bury is kinda good between us - especially since my partner will drive me there and us both home...
Can you recommend anything better? And places to eat in Bury? I ask because this is likely to be more than occasional - for business as well as just chat...

Food wise the pub on the other side of the Robert Peel, Wyldes, does pretty good pub food although I'd recommend Automatic which is next door to/underneath the Met.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Seeing as we're talking about pubs, I popped in the brewery tap this evening.
He's brewing a pint called Jean Lafitte at the mo, and its cracking stuff.
We're very lucky to have a small brewer of his calibre in town.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
The Robert Peel makes me laugh, i parked outside it Wednesday morning at about 10am when i went for a haircut. Half a dozen winos stood at the door chonging on woodbines with plenty more inside! Actually it was quite worrying how busy it was at that time on a weekday!
