Also, what are people's goals this year? Any particular times/distances they want to get?
I'm after a sub-21 5km time by the end of the year I fancy.
I'm looking for:
A sub 3:45 marathon
A sub 1:35 half marathon
A sub 43 minute 10k
A sub 21 minute 5k
Plus 3 x Sprint triathlons and an Olympic distance
I'm now going for a lie down!

Something happened on tonight's run that hasn't happened up to now - one of my laces came undone. What an absolute pisser that was!

Re: The athletics/running thread
4 miles run tonight, took me 35minutes. Thought i'd gone faster then that, bit gutted.
Dunno what sort of time to expect at the weekend. Its a flattish course along the seafront but if the weathers bad that could affect my time with the wind blowing in from the sea.

And the wind will be the same for everyone

Leverhulme Park, Gary, so I imagine a bit of all sorts. I'll stick the Power Boots on to cover all eventualities

Re: The athletics/running thread
They do parkrun at Leverhulme Park brucie, if you get into it properly. A free timed run/race at 9am. Always really friendly when I've been elsewhere.

I'll be back home the weekend after next so will be having a crack at it then
Best of luck for the 19th!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Track session tonight.
1600m warm up
8 x 800m at 7 minute pace
200 jog intervals in between reps
1600m warm down.
I jogged to and from the track so that's 8 miles in total with about half at pace.

10km tonight. 54:27 steady pace. 3 minutes shaved off last week's time. Hoping I can get under 50 minutes before April's race.

Help me out here then if you will then please, Verbal. What exactly is meant by the term parkrun? (other than for running in a park).

Re: The athletics/running thread
Parkrun is just the name of the firm that runs it. People have ended up calling them parkruns though.

have a squizzo at their website: http://www.parkrun.com/home
basically - you turn up at 9am (having first registered and received your barcode) - you run their 5K course with a while load of other people - and they time you - and email you your time and position. it's a properly measured course so you know that it's actually 5K. it's free - and really rather ace!

Re: The athletics/running thread
parkrun is not a race - it's just lots of people running 5K together - there was certainly no race-feel about the one I went to - it's about the communal encouragement and improving your own time on a properly measured course...Bruce Rioja wrote:Right, cheers guys - I'm onto it (though 'racing' isn't where I'm at just yetthebish wrote:it's what I did last week...Bruce Rioja wrote:Verbal wrote:They do parkrun at Leverhulme Park brucie, if you get into it properly.
