Re: General Chit Chat
Holiday booked for next year. Lanzarote. I wouldn't normally go back there but we are kind of forced into it for various reasons.
Last years holiday was one week in Devon in a 'luxury' forest lodge, and to be fair it was very nice. Cost £1490 + £90 fuel = £1580
This year two weeks in a 'luxury' apartment on a small private complex (it is, I've been before). Private deal rather than a package. Cost = £625 for apartment + £750 for flights + £205 for car hire/fuel for full two weeks = £1580
You begin to see why people holiday abroad.

My dog has just developed a passion for pigs ears. Your average dog, averagely sized, would on average eat one in approximately twenty minutes, fifteen if they were rushing things a little. Not her. Three minutes tops, chewed and swallowed and hardly touching the sides.
That's not a leopard!

Re: General Chit Chat
[Spotless] You've been unable to gird your loins and offer it trotters then?
Seeing as this is a general chat thread: I wonder how many of you have had strange things happen in your house. A few years ago I was sitting reading the paper whilst I was making a mess of a crossword and drinking a cup of coffee. Of a sudden the kitchen tap turned full on. After drying off myself and shutting the under-sink valve I found that the washer of the said tap had failed; catastrophically.
Anyhow: A day or so ago, my wife and I both being at home, there came a rather odd and muffled 'thump'. Both of us put it down to something becoming dislodged and falling to the floor. A quick check of our rooms, workshop and garage produced nothing that might have caused the sound. We shrugged our shoulders and continued with whatever it was we were doing at the time (settle!). An hour or so later I had need to access our refrigerator. Oh dear! My wife keeps an array of spicy 'stuff' (i.e. comestibles which I would never, ever, eat) in the fridge door. One of them had, for still unknown reasons, blown its top. The inside of the refrigerator was coated from top to bottom and from front to back in some vile smelling semi-liquid. So was the content of that wonderful cool room. Two hours later my wife (who takes charge of this sort of thing) declared the area 'clean'.

Just 4" or so due in this area.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: General Chit Chat
Might I borrow a bit of your coolth, please? It's 38.4ºC outside as I type within the air conditioned palace of Dujon. I know that our desert dwelling member will sniff at that but it puts one on edge when thinking of the consequences of the action of one idiot and one match. Anyway it's bloomin' hot; even the birds are panting.

handy tip: if you are claiming to be snowed in today and so are "working from home", don't post pictures of the Snowman you built until tomorrow.

My son just emailed. It is not as hot as Dubai, Dujon, but the 51 mph winds are disturbing. Wisely he went to Coogee Beach (wherever that is).Montreal Wanderer wrote:That is hot!
