Good luck with that. The smell of them reminds me of urinals that have undergone prolonged use without cleaning.... ref: Burnden bogs.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

That's what I think of Box Hedge.Lord Kangana wrote:Good luck with that. The smell of them reminds me of urinals that have undergone prolonged use without cleaning.... ref: Burnden bogs.
Skate however I've always liked. Shallow dried with butter, capers and lemon. With Jersey new pots. Lovely.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

They've been popular among the clergy for many years. I do believe there's a very famous late 18th century Scottish oil painting titled The Skate Wing Minister.thebish wrote:went to the fish shop (as I often do on a monday) - came back with a pair of skate wings... never had skate wings before!

LK - Have you ever encountered black scabbardfish? Was working in Porto a couple of weeks ago. We asked the hotel receptionist to recommend to us a traditional Portuguese restaurant serving local nosebag, so she did. I was intrigued by this black scabbardfish on the menu so gave it a go, and am so glad I did - delicious. The waiter boned it at the table though (oh errr) and it looked a bit of a bugger to bone.
Had lime pie for pud - that's worth going back for too.
BTW - should any of you find yourself in Porto and looking for this sort of thing in a cozy little place with some excellent service then the place is called Restaurante Abadia do Porto (Or Porto Abbey if you prefer).

encountered those in Madeira - it's almost like their national dish - known there as "espada"! served with fried banana...Bruce Rioja wrote:LK - Have you ever encountered black scabbardfish? When we were in the UEFA cup and played Guimaraes we stayed our first night in Porto. The taxi driver who took us from the airport to our hotel recommended a local delicacy, the Francesinha. After a few beers (and a lot of shouting at some Rangers fans) we trundled up the hill to a place where we were met with this beauty. Forget your post ParkRun brekkies, this is the real deal.

Slices of bread (up to four I think) interspersed with steak, sausages, ham, chicken breast fillet, topped with melted cheese and a gravy reminiscent of the meatball gravy at IKEA. Served with fries and washed down with a couple of pints it was bloody delicious!

Is there a parkrun in Porto that we can dodge and just go to eat one of those?

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
For my birthday yesterday (which the missus sometimes uses as an opportunity to buy stuff that she wants!) - I had a "spiralizer" - which (apparently) is the latest must-have kitchen gadget.
from what I can gather, people mostly use them to make noodles out of things like courgettes and sweet potatoes - so that they can have low-calorie stir-fries and stuff...
has anyone on here got one/used one/found out good to do with one?
it has a bewildering number of attachments with which I imagine you can do all manner of fancy things with fruit and vegetables!

You'll be getting a nutribullet next. Don't understand the obsession these days of making stuff pretend to be something else.thebish wrote:For my birthday yesterday (which the missus sometimes uses as an opportunity to buy stuff that she wants!) - I had a "spiralizer" - which (apparently) is the latest must-have kitchen gadget.

Anyway, happy birthday for yesterday

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
It looks cool, but that's about it. We had courgetti Bolognese where you rep... You get the gist. Looked good. Was in fact a soggy mess as unlike pasta courgette doesn't absorb the sauce, and is wet itself.thebish wrote:For my birthday yesterday (which the missus sometimes uses as an opportunity to buy stuff that she wants!) - I had a "spiralizer" - which (apparently) is the latest must-have kitchen gadget.

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.
