I keep off the Politics thread and also the religion site as I firmly believe no-one will ever change anothers mind & it just leads to stances being taken & pointless fall-outs arise.William the White wrote:today I watched the infamous trailer to Innocence of Muslims.
It's possibly the crassest thing I've ever seen.
Another 17 people died today protesting against this dross.
And a Pakistani government minister has offered a reward for the 'execution' of this 'blasphemer'...
If the prophet is not absolutely fireproof against idiocy like this the faith is in very bad shape... or, to be accurate, the Pakistani government is, and the Salafist fundamentalists are seizing their chance...

Explanation... This is a left wing protest and organise site I subscribe to and support in various ways on the issues it tackles that match up with my concerns...
Still, regarding this issue, I do wonder at the utter inablity of the Muslim faith to cope with even the most ordinary lampooning. Also the ability, willingness even, to take the most massive offence at any perceived 'insult'.
The swiftness that mobs, with murdurous intent, gather and act without control is medieval.
Clearly this all suits the religion and it's leaders but really, how long can it last and is it genuine or simply politically motivated ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
but, you didnt even watch the film fully.
i carnt see why he didnt distribute it on a "collectors edition dvd" with a big american flag on the label , and a free GeorgeBush/Obama effigy beanie baby so they could *ahem* kill two birds with one stone when they set fire to it.
also, i'm surprised this hasnt happened yet.

That said, whatever talents you may have Marketing isn't one of them.
The term "Explanation... This is a left wing protest and organise site I subscribe to and support in various ways on the issues it tackles that match up with my concerns" was not designed to entice me in, now was it ?
Now I have, I have to say that it is very consoling.
If I interpret it correctly IAM OK to pop up Halliwell with my "Islam, what a gas" Tee-shirt on with a nice, flattering drawing of some geezer in robes with "maybe he looked like this" written on it.
I'll keep a look out for the breezy laughter of kids outside their mosque's reading a Private Eye with some photo & speech bubble lampooning their religion and hey, sometime soon the Islamic version of "Life of Brian" should be the big ticket item at Vue.
Phew. All is well with the World & I just didn't realise it.

That Emma cooked well in the final round, but can't help feeling that she won by virtue of being shit at the start but good by the end.Bruce Rioja wrote:I absolutely agree. Top quality throughout.BWFC_Insane wrote:Danny Mills was robbed by the way.....
Whereas Danny Mills was excellent all the way through IMO.
Too much emphasis placed on 'journey' rather than who was actually the best.
Having said that would have eaten any of the courses made in the final by Mills and the winner happily...
The other bloke, not so much........

Re: What are you watching tonight?
People don't just take part in things on TV anymore, they all go on "journeys". Along with "You made that song/dance your own", "You owned that" (stand up Alesha Dixon) and "OMG" it's been hackneyed to death. About as daft as describing some of those pencil-legged boy band skeletons as "hot" and "hunks". Call me a dinasour if you wish.BWFC_Insane wrote: Too much emphasis placed on 'journey' rather than who was actually the best.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Have just watched 'Wilde', which I've had o the magic sky box for a while. I've seen very few films better cast than this. Expected it to be more about his work than about his homosexuality and subsequent struggles like. A very worthwhile film - couldn't help feeling quite sorry for him, and his Mrs.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Stephen Fry was born for that part. Brilliant acting and, as you say, superbly cast.Bruce Rioja wrote:Have just watched 'Wilde', which I've had o the magic sky box for a while. If you loved 'Wilde', and were interested by his life, read De Profundis. A more honest, tortured, book of insecurity mixed with patches of genius you will never read. I love his other stuff so much, his way with language is incredible; but, as a human story De Profundis is amazing. Is basically a letter to Bosie from Reading Gaol about why he is there and what he has learnt about life, all framed in an essay about art and what is beautiful about life.

Thick of It this weekend - amazing, one of the best episodes imho.
Also, saw this on the news this morning and pissed myself laughing. Satirised on Saturday, government policy by Monday

De Profundis is beautiful. I saw a very moving reading of it by Corin Redgrave three years ago, just before he died.Prufrock wrote:If you loved 'Wilde', and were interested by his life, read De Profundis. Wilde was also a powerful advocate of a kind of Utopian anarcho-socialism...
Have you read his The Soul of Man Under Socialism?

Aha! Watching Doctor Who on Saturday I was struck by the woman playing the head of U.N.I.T.
''She looks familiar'' thought I and promptly forgot to google her. WtW you've just pricked my memory. Jemma Redgrave!
Cheers!
