What are you watching tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Tonight - thanks to LF - El Bano del Papa - the Pope's Toilet. Uruguayan, Spanish lang, subtitles.

Great premise, based on a true event... The Pope is due to visit a poverty stricken Uruguayan town, on its border with Brazil, with a population of about 20,000. (1988 - JP II). Rumours abound that hundreds of thousands will visit the town, including thousands from Brazil, and the town goes crazy attempting to find ways of making a little money from the event... (in fact over 380 stalls were officially licensed).

Our protagonist decides to build a public toilet in his front 'garden' where he will charge 40 pesos for 'half service' and 80 pesos for 'full service' and thus raise the money for his daughter to go to Montevideo for the course in journalism she's set her heart upon.

It's a great premise. Can't say any more without spoilers, but this is a fine, albeit slowly paced film, and we were really pleased to see it.

Yep, those spoilers would simply ruin it for all of us.

You crack me up Will !
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It's is not a parody, it's just a run of the mill Cockernee gangster film.

It's one of them films I watched a lot in my late teens so have an affection for it, but pretty sure I'd be irritated by it if I watched it for the first time tonight.

It's a grossly & deliberately exaggerated example of the gangster chic film type. Almost a melodrama of the genre.

I'd view that as a parody.

Maybe my definition's wrong.

It's f*cking Guy Ritchie ffs. I think you may be giving him somewhat more credit than he deserves. Presumably Danny Dyer is a carefully constructed character, a parody of a parody as it were?

If it's Guy Ritchie it's obviously a failed attempt to be serious.

I thought Lock Stock was shit. I enjoyed Snatch. Not a problem with those sort of films, but to describe them as clever parodies is seriously overestimating them! Guy Ritchie is a simple, brash bloke who makes simple, brash films. Simple and brash are sometimes what you want.

I've got to agree with Pru...I prefer Snatch to Lock Stock.
