Joint pain
Ok, it's a bit embarrassing for a twenty year old to be asking about this, but does anybody have any good advice for joint pain?
I think it's mainly from the amount of golf I'm playing at the moment, but my finger joints really hurt, and my other joints and back are generally a bit stiff. I've just bid on a copper bracelet on eBay because I have heard of people having some success with those. Has anyone else used one? Any other suggestions?

The best advice is to stop doing the thing that's causing the problem. Difficult if you're practicing for a specific event, but take a break when you can.
Short term, anti-inflammatory drugs will help, but long term, have a look at your technique to see if there is unnecessary tension. I'd recommend taking Alexander technique lessons to any sportsman or musician. It's neither cheap or quick, but the benefits will stay with you for life.

Re: Joint pain
it supposedly builds your arms/forearms/wrists up if you use one , it gets them use to moving , theyre kinda hard to start, and at first holding onto the bastard while its on the go is the hardest thing... then when youre good at it you'll get puzzled as to how to make it go faster ..mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Thanks guys, I think I might give the cod liver oil a whirl and see how that goes.

it feels like swinging a dumbell round with the weights only on one side , except your hands are moving in a mongy way ... they kinda work..

And that's not just because my girlfriend goes to a university 200 miles away from mine, Soldier.

I've not read all the other stuff but copper bracelet and such like is as much use as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking competition.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Ok, it's a bit embarrassing for a twenty year old to be asking about this, but does anybody have any good advice for joint pain?

Ibuprofen is the most commonly used drug for joint pain, it'll also help relieve swelling.
Best bet is see you GP, I had similar issues after a week of golf every day and pain was excruciating, turns out it was gout. It's crystals of acid in your joints set off by minor injury. They give you diclofenac and it's over in a couple of days.

I doubt it will do anything either, but as I say, I know a couple of golfers who wear them and say that they help. I've also seen quite a few tour pros wearing them over the years. It seems a fairly inexpensive thing to try.communistworkethic wrote:I've not read all the other stuff but copper bracelet and such like is as much use as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking competition.
The main places it hurts at the moment are the joints of my two little figures. For the purpose of getting through two golf fixtures this weekend, do you think it's better to take ibuprofen in tabular form, or apply ibuprofen gel directly to the affected area?

I have much the same problem Mummy. My hips are knackered, I have 40% movement before it becomes incredibly painful. The specialist has told me that I will need a double hip replacement operation, I'm 35 ffs!!
They will not give me one due to my age, apparently the hips only last for ten years then I'm more or less buggered! I simply have to grin and bear it and that's it. They said it's simply down to logging an 80 pound Bergen up and down any hill in the world the army can find in shxt boots.
For someone as young as you I would say it could well be acute arthritis, I had it in my right elbow when I used to play snooker every night when I was your age. The doctor told me to simply take a month off from playing. After that it was right as rain.
