That was the number they where ringing me on, I answered the phone ffor my sins and had to go through a similar conversation to yourself. Consolidate your debts sir, and all that rubbish.

0845 is a non-geographic local rate number. that is, you pay a local rate (usually no more than 5p per min) no matter where you are in the country

Beneficial are bastards. I took out a loan with them years ago, paid it off early and then found that on my credit reference file it was listed as defaulted.

it was the way he said "yes" when i asked if he'd made me ring them so they could sell me something, sounds like its quite common practise for them, fecking dimwits. just wait til watercooler salesman get wind of that technique, we'll all be drinking chilled, filtered north west water before long.

It can't be against the rules to pay it off early, they have to give that option and repayment is governed (assuming the loan is before 2005) by Counsumer Credit Act 1974 - "rule of 78"
