Guilty pleasures
Some of you may know that I'm a record collector. Everything from snake-hipped northern soul to wild-eyed garage punk. From funky prog to tripped out folk. So with my wealth of musical armory, people often think I've got great taste in music.
Wrong!
Like anyone else, I have records that can only be described as 'guilty pleasures'. These tunes and artists have a cherished place in my collection even though my brain tells me that I shouldn't be touching 'em with a shitty stick... however... most music is chosen with the heart and there is no going back.
So, in an attempt to put an arm around you and tell you 'it's okay', I'll unburden myself of some guilt and revel in the dodgy records that make my day... only wanting a list of yours in return. Come on! It'll be cathartic! Call it therapy! Throw shame away and shout from the rooftops! Here is my list...
The early works of Gilbert O'Sullivan (currently listening to his debut LP as we speak... a masterpiece!)
Easy Lover by Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey
Elton John's first two albums
The children's LP 'The Magical World of Roger Whittaker'
Sailing by Christopher Cross
Silly Love Songs by Wings
Alexander O'Neill's 'Hearsay' LP
Livin' Thing by ELO
'Always' by Atlantic Starr
There. I've done it. Now spill. Do you have a fondness for 5ive? Can't get enough of 'The Land of Make Believe' by Bucks Fizz? A secret Vanilla Ice fan?

I've got a couple of Aqua albums
Though most of the artists I do have aren't in the charts. My main favourites are Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis
I also used to have a Steps album, but I got rid of that.

Slightly swerving the point, but you might be interested to know that Vangelis was in an ace rock band called Aphrodite's Child which featured the rotund crooning Demis Roussos on lead vocals. You should check it out! 'The Four Horsemen' tune is a killer.chris wrote:My main favourites are Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis...
Nice to see people joining in the fun. Doesn't it feel better to unload the burden?
I've just thought of another...
...I really like 'Devil Woman' by Sir Cliff.

After that you might as well admit to a penchant for Chas and Dave.
Okay, my turn.
Back in the early eighties I had strong aspirations to be a singer in a rock band. I had (have) a reasonable voice and compared my vocal style to David Coverdale/ Paul Rodgers/ Ian Gillan style of Blues Rock.
However, two of my favourite songs to sing along to are:
Spandau Ballet - True
and
George Michaels - A different Corner (I still have the 12" Vinyl with the instrumental version on the 'b' side and once recorded my own vocals over it)
btw this isn't cathartic. I feel dirty discussing this with you lot.
