Not expecting that - not so soon at least.

End of Sammy's reign? Vacancy at City? Who knows?

I suppose this is a fraction better than Chimbonda last year. At least he waited till the next day.

There was a bit of speculation about this this morning. It had been suggested he was being given the boot and teh club made teh statement that "we want Paul to remain manager" - indication that it was him wanting out if ever there was.

No doubt he's pissed off witrh their nobhead interfering skinflint chairman.

To be honest, not expecting that at all. He had a job for life there. City then you've got to assume?

Wow, Wigan fans must be waking up to a rude awakening.
See him fitting the picture at City, what with the takeover.

Just like he left Bratfurt after keeping them up, no? Wonder if the Pies will appoint Chris Hutchings?

(Confused? Try Google.)

He's taken the club as far as he can (and then back down a few positions). He's frustrated with low gates and low "pulling power" for the best players. He fancies a challenge at a bigger club. It's like Groundhog Day.

Might open the way for sales, but not at fire-sale prices.

Who will they appoint? Chris Casper?

Jewell guided The Latics to Premiership safety with a win at Sheffield United on the final day of the season.

However, he will not be in charge for a third season in the Premiership as he has decided to step down from the JJB Stadium helm.

Jewell in tandem with chairman Dave Whelan guided The Latics to the Premiership in 2005 and he has proved to be a hugely popular figure in the North West.

He has expressed frustration this term with the club's failure to bring in big-name players and it would appear as if Jewell feels he has taken the club as far as he can.

Sky Sports News are claiming Wigan are keen to make a swift appointment in order to hand the new man the entire summer to plan for next term.

The club have called a 3pm press conference, with it expected they will confirm Jewell's departure.
Does he think he's Sam Allardyce or something?

To be fair, he didn't half go for some big names when they first came up. Parker and Owen were both targeted!

I can see him going to Man City, think he'd do well.
