What a god damned disgrace.

Who offsets the harm caused by flying in US and world stars for a shitty concert at an artificially lighted Wemberlee?

Also, if Madonna says "Jump up if you want to save the Earth" one more fookin time I'm gonna scream.

Oh and Gervais is one unfunny c*nt

If the world turns into a giant fireball, it's worth it if it puts an end to patronising crap like this. Where's Jarvis Cocker when you need him?!

To be fair though, Commie, it's not footballers that are being a bunch of sanctimonious and hypocritical nice people telling everyone else that they should be doing their bit.

but batman's moaning about the popstars. As I understand it, the "gigs" are carbon neutral by one way or another. He's a travel agent book unnecessary flights every day.

The argument is somewhat circular, everything has an impact. At least here there is some potential good from this.

Hmmm went to see Genesis last night (who opened Live Earth gig). It didn't look like a carbon neutral lighting extravaganza they put on for their own show...:-)

The thing that was obvious yesterday was that people were there for the music and couldn't really give a shiit about the environmental talk.

In between acts when some guy who looks like they are some mad greenpeace activist would come on and talk about the earth, you could see people in the crowd just talking to themselves and were not interested.

And I agree Madonna shouting 'Jump if you want to save the Earth' was cringe worthy. I wouldn't have jumped because I am not a 'yes person'. Some of the morons in the crowd may as well have asked how high Madonna wanted them to jump, it was embarrassing.

its more of a attempt to raise awareness for viewers at home. It worked for me because it reminded me to switch stuff off more often but they could have made more of a stand by not using so much light and for charity instead of something that is disputed whether we should bother bothering. Plants an animals give off about 90% of the gases, not our fuels, apparently. And what about people driving there? SO much gas use there it was probably had 0 efficiency everything taken into consideration

lighting
cars
helicopter
power for amps and stuff

awareness of the public

The cause didn't matter, it was just an excuse for a party.

If it had been an event to raise awareness for "Monkey Tennis" or any other random thing you can think of, they would have still filled the stadiums.

Funnily enough, that's exactly what the guy in my fourball said today. It is indeed hypocrytical pish.

The best bit was when they turned off all 'non-essential' lights at the stadium to illustrate some half-arsed point. If they're 'non-essential', why are they blazing away all night to start with? Isn't this a bit counter productive?

lmao, but very true.

This is going to cause controversy because its a good cause, but Live Aid about a year ago where Geldof said after the concert he wanted everyone to go up to Scotland to the G14 summit to protest and on the news it showed people who looked like spider from Coronation Street jumping into their volkswagen camper vans to drive up. Er what for? What bloody good will that do? Some people are such yes people. I hate them. They would go into room 101.
