The debate on his suspension should be good viewing when he steps up to defend himself. Not got much time for Galloway, but he's the kind of big character politics misses these days.

There are many orators dead, skilful and witless. There are many folk dead. I'm not very keen on Galloway myself - I think he has a huge opinion of himself and tends towards bullying those he identifies as inferior - but perhaps the point folk are making is that in our whitewashed safe-as-houses "democracy" of three-line whips and ever-toed party lines, people with off-message opinions will never achieve a position of responsibility. Which, I suppose, means they can continue to fill up with piss, wind and vinegar until the day they die in relative obscurity.
Want to make politics interesting? Abolish the whip system, let members vote as they see fit, and therefore define themselves to their constituents more thoroughly than "red", "blue" or "other which may win your postcode but is unlikely to have any power whatsoever".

err ok - abolish the Whip so effectively anyone can vote against the Government (whichever colour)...so everyone follows a personal manifesto and ultimately needs to seek supporters - do you not think there'd be a meeting of the minds on broad policy? and the formation of new parties?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Must remember not to go camping with you, Franky...Worthy4England wrote:What's all this crap about being a skillful orator about? show me policy and conviction and ability to carry it through and you might win my vote..lotsa skillful orators are dead. Er, broad policy, yes. Party, maybe. Enforced unthinking following of the party line, no.Worthy4England wrote:err ok - abolish the Whip so effectively anyone can vote against the Government (whichever colour)...so everyone follows a personal manifesto and ultimately needs to seek supporters - do you not think there'd be a meeting of the minds on broad policy? and the formation of new parties?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Want to make politics interesting? I realise Galloway isnt everybodys cup of tea - although I quite like the bloke - but to suggest he is a 'Jew Hater' because he slags off a Politician who happens to be Jewish seems to be a bit disingenuous to me. Is he a 'white hater' or a 'Scots hater' because he's slagged off Tony Blair in the past?
