Spot The Tune
With such a massive and varied musical appreciation society as we have here (borne out by the success of the "What are you playing tonight" thread) this should be easy, it ain't, it's mission impossible. The Story:
Whilst on holiday this year we spent a day in Benidorm. Know the place quite well and regularly eat lunch at a small bar/cafe where they do huge all-day English breakfasts. Add a couple of San Miguels and it makes up for the wife's "shop till you drop" day.
Anyway, while we were in there a record came on the sound system. Vaguely remembered it from years ago and loved it. It's an instrumental, a samba beat and with a powerful percussion beat on drums (the skin variety, not electronic drum machines). Sort of group drumming rather than a solo drummer. Jumped up and asked the guy what it was. He pointed up at a TV screen and I realised it was one of those compilation things that play with video pictures. When I asked the title he could backtrack the screen so that it showed up there. Only trouble, it said, "No 14, Dance With.." and that was it. He played it for me another couple of times and I have to have it. It's become almost obsessive but I can't find the bloody thing and it's doing my head.
Tried all the Google bits etc but without the group or track title I'm stymied. The previous track on the record compilation, I know came from 1963, but not sure that helps. Not even sure I will get anywhere by posting this, but any ideas for tracking it would be welcome. All the other tracks were oldies from the Brit pop charts so it won't be an obscure latin thing. It must have had a chart history however brief, maybe even a one-hit-wonder. I want this record but bad. Any ideas?

Think that was just the compilation or track no Hoss. I said it was mission impossible. It's a definite Samba beat, not that that will mean much to most non-dancers.CrazyHorse wrote:Is the "No 14" part of the song title or was the track number on the disc, if you know what I mean?

The only thing i can think of is safri duo's - Played-a-live (The Bongo Song), which is what i thought after your description but then i don't know what a samba beat is and it isn't an old song, its just an instrumental song based on drums and other percussion and it was a one hit wonder. Anyways that's my attempted guess at what it could be.
Edit;
Even though it isn't the right song I'm going to link to it anyways, I have always been impressed with watching them play this song so effortlessly.

Try Santana - Samba Pa Ti
Roughly translates as "Dance with you"
" the song is instrumental, featuring decent bass and superb guitar playing. "
starts off slow then the drums pick up about 2 minutes in.

Samba pa ti translates as "Samba for you" Manny, "pa" being short for "para", but thanks for the link. .Manny wrote:Try Santana - Samba Pa Ti

when is it from ? 60s , 70s , nowadays ?
was it a 'hit' (did it chart or seem like it did)
did it get released in the past then get re-released 'recently' like that louis armstrong record did that time?
knowing these sorta things the next time you hear it , you'll be flicking thru channels it'll be on mtv you'll be waiting for the artist / title strap and it wont tell you .. the next time after that you'll here it somebody will playing it in his car at 40mph while youre walking to the shop for some smokes ......
always happens ..
