Aye, like Tom Hanks is now a Villa fan, like every American who visits Ireland suddenly starts looking in their family tree etc etc.hisroyalgingerness wrote:how to lose an election rule no 1: back the wrong side
West Ham may soon be able to boast having one of the most powerful fans in the world as has emerged that US Presidential candidate Barack Obama has been a follower of the Hammers ever since a visit to London five years ago. (The Sun)

I'm hoping for Obama. Read this great article and you may agree...

Edwards' withdrawal is thought to favour Hilary (handing the trailer park trash vote to her).freeindeed wrote:I'm hoping for Obama. Read this great article and you may agree...

No, AT, tell me you don't...americantrotter wrote:Pure speculation alone for me would be that he worships at the feet of Bill. Like a lot of us do.
Anyway, which of Obama and Clinton do you think would stand the greater chance of winning a presidential election? I get the impression, without following things all that closely, that Hilary is seen by the Republicans as being the more beatable....

Possibly true, but after eight years of George Bush, anyone should be able to win for the Democrats.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:No, AT, tell me you don't...americantrotter wrote:Pure speculation alone for me would be that he worships at the feet of Bill. Like a lot of us do.

My initial thought is why so many of you care about the US elections?
But anyhow, this is my priority list:
If Obama wins, I'll be very, very happy.
If Clinton wins, I'd be content.
If any other Democrat wins, fine.
If a republican wins, I will cry.
If Mike Huckabee wins, I will jump of a cliff. I don't want the USA to turn into Jesus land.

Isn't one of your mottos 'in god we trust'?
Isn't creationism still taught in some schools (and indeed, Darwinism banned in others?)
Forgive me, but the impression I got of you lot over the pond is that you were a bunch of god botherers, a frankly frightening thought in the country with the largest most sophisticated military machine the world has ever seen. Forget Jihad, just don't upset the preachers on 'pay-per-view god tv'.
Am I wrong?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I was about to say in response to Libreg's bolded bit, "yer too late in some areas"...Lord Kangana wrote:Doesn't your president talk to god?libreg wrote:I don't want the USA to turn into Jesus land.

In truth, there's a thousand different Americas. There's parts like all the above and worse, but not by any means all of it. Thing is, it's the mob above who can usually be relied upon to vote...
I'm back off to Americky in April (Chicago for the compulsory in-laws visit, then San Francisco again), can't wait...

Loved Noo Yark, almost went working there(but turned the opportunity down ), sadly I'm now over the age threshold in my field to gain a sponsored visa - such is life.
And when I worked in London, several of my colleagues were 'yanks', and to be fair, their world views varied wildly depending on where they hailed from. (same as anywhere else I s'pose.)
The rest of America I get second-hand, so I've really no idea where the truth lies.
