London Marathon.
What a staggering event this thing is. Just watched the runners coming in. Last year it raised 45 million for charity in one day. Athletes, celebrities, charity runners, fun runners, kids, guys in wheel chairs, people carrying amazing loads (one dressed a s a fxxking rhinocerous) six Massai warriors with spears and shields and just about every form of fancy dress imaginable. Makes me wish I was younger (make that much, much younger) just to stagger round and be a part of that. Young, old, long, short and tall. Even one guy from Japan who was on crutches and a girl on stilts. Guy from Northern Ireland has run four marathons in twelve days, and all for charity. A -fxxking-mazing.
Power to their elbows for a fantastic event. Well done all.

Great North Run is done this year.blurred wrote:Great North Run? You're not the only one off here doing that (no, not me!)enfieldwhite wrote:I'm also doing the half-marathon 5th October. Care to join me?
No. I'm talking about the 'Run to the Beat' London Half-Marathon.
Live bands at intervals along the route. Gonna be great.

Am doing a 10km leg of the world's biggest relay race, the Batavierenrace ( http://www.batavierenrace.nl/english/the_race/ ) next Thursday. I only got roped in last week, so I've only done a couple of training runs so far.
What do you running types think an acceptable 10k time is?

Depends on a lot of different factors.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Am doing a 10km leg of the world's biggest relay race, the Batavierenrace ( http://www.batavierenrace.nl/english/the_race/ ) next Thursday. I only got roped in last week, so I've only done a couple of training runs so far.

Course difficulty (surface, gradient, weather conditions)
Level of fitness.
Experience
Given that there's not a lot of you and you seem fairly fit, you should be looking at 5min km or faster, so sub 50 minutes overall (if I can do it, you can)
Good Luck!

enfield's over estimating things a bit here. Realisticly you should forget about time for your first one, especially if you've not covered that distance before - you should be able to cover at least 4.5 miles comfortably before race day. If you come in at anything under 1hr 10 then that's perfectly acceptable for your first bash - especially as you've only got little legs and will have to make so many extra strides to cover the distance.enfieldwhite wrote:Depends on a lot of different factors.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Am doing a 10km leg of the world's biggest relay race, the Batavierenrace ( http://www.batavierenrace.nl/english/the_race/ ) next Thursday. Possibly, but as it's the Netherlands there ain't gonna be too many gradients to overcome!communistworkethic wrote:enfield's over estimating things a bit here.
