Re: What are you watching tonight?
Not sure it's worth a thread of it's own, so am posting in here. What are people's opinions as to the best and worst of 2013's films? For me, the best was The Great Gatsby. A classic story for a reason, massively over the top, I just went with it and absoluterly loved it. It just worked on every level for me. Can't wait to see it again. The worst - Olympus Has Fallen. What a bag of absolute bollocks. You've seen it a million times dressed in various clothes. Wronged Yank steps in, both voluntarily and single-handedly to save the President and, of course, democracy itself from this year's baddie (they're onto North Koreans now )

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I enjoyed The Great Gatsby but was a little disappointed with it. Although the scene when Gatsby is introduced for the first time might be the best/cheesiest scene of the year.
Best for me has to be Captain Phillips. Tom Hanks' performance alone is the best single performance for me of the last few years, but along with the Somalian actors (their first time acting in any film!) and my love of films at sea it easily made it film of the year. Other favourites include Prisoners, Gravity, Thor 2, The Impossible and The Place Beyond The Pines.
Worst has to be the new Texas Chainsaw. Not a massive horror fan but I did like the original and the first remake, but this was terrible.

On balance, to get the full Titanic level of benefit, you may have to do this the other way round, so sticking then spooning. Seems less risky than gouging them first, then trying to stick them as they dangle. Worse, they could roll off, if the nerves severed.I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon and then stick darning needles in them.

Sound advice, as ever. Thanks Worthy.Worthy4England wrote:On balance, to get the full Titanic level of benefit, you may have to do this the other way round, so sticking then spooning. The preferred solution however seems to be not to watch it at all, thus not risking getting the order wrong.
On this tack, btw, I read that Newton, who was a bit barking, was so scientifically curious he one time (well, a few time I believe) that he decided it would be interesting, scientifically that is, to * put a needle into his eyeball, and sort of wriggle it around for a while to see what the impact was. Sometimes reaching right to the back of the eye socket. On one occasion he was blinded for several days from doing this !!
* Don't do this at home, boys & girls.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Watched BBC2's 2011 version of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Decent enough production with Judy Dench as the housekeeper. Sequence of events moved around somewhat from the book but told the story well enough via a series of flashbacks.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Probably the best film of that genre I've seen, the live music scenes are fantastic. I generally find biopics boring, especially if they follow the standard formula of rise to fame- personal problems - redemption.Prufrock wrote:Walk the Line.

Her singing ain't bad either. In fact, Mrs BP prefers the film soundtrack to the real McCoy. Can't agree myself.Prufrock wrote:Yep, mind blown that that was them singing too! Reese Witherspoon is amazing.
Love the film, as does the 17 year old Miss BP. High praise indeed.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Haven't seen it, though I did enjoy 'Walk Hard' the parody.
