TW Open 2008

Post by blurred » Sat Apr 26, 2008 1:53 am

OK, I've played today and I've totally been bitten by the bug - are we going to manage a 2008 version of the TW Open? Would be a shame if we couldn't get something together.

Presumably the first thing is to agree the date, and the rest will come after that?

Anyway, late June or early July would suit me... Anyone else up for it?

Yep, I'm not playing at the moment until a competition in Germany towards the end of June, but I'd be up for something perhaps on the 21/22 June, otherwise anytime after the first week in July.

Bruce, Doctor - have you got a preferred weekend/month or are you fairly flexible? MWCIEC and I both appear to favour early July, so the earlier we can get availability the easier it is to sort numbers.

The only weekends that are out for me at the moment are 24/25 May, 31 May/1 June and 7/8 June. Other that for those I'm fine so far.

I'll need to check when I get home, but I'm fairly sure that I can't do 7/8, 14/15 (Portrush and all that Jazz 8) ) or 21/22 June, but otherwise largely free.

13/20 July is out for me, June 1st would be ideal but seems a few can't manage that already.

So I'm up for 29th June or 6th July.

Bruce, Fatshaft and I all appear to be ok for the last weekend in June (28/29th). Mummy? Hotdog?

Any others fancy a hack? Commie? HRG?

That weekend is no good for me as I'm out here doing exams at that time..... ditto 6th July. Anytime after that is fine for me (apart from the actual Open Championship at Birkdale, of course, which is 17-20 July), but before that the only time I could play is when I happen to be at home on the 21/22 June.

I think I could manage the Sunday of that weekend, but not the Saturday. Most people seem to be able to do this, so shall we pencil this in as the date?

Can you hit that 1 iron yet?

There's no point me trying (so I haven't), i'm much better with my 3-wood anyhow.

If I get this set of blades re-gripped then they'll probably become my primary set, I just can't afford it at the minute.

What have you got at the moment - I really doubt moving to a set of blades will do you any good... you should still bring the 1 stick with you so we can have a crack, though.

Nothing to shout about irons wise, but i've a nice PingG5 3-wood and a scotty cameron putter (which is roughly 5 inches too short, but it works).

I will re-grip the 1-iron so we can have a punt, but it's definitely going to hurt if the contact isn't perfect.

Guess I'm getting a bit old for keeping up with all you youngsters. I'll get a bit of practise in and see how it goes before commiting myself. I found it really hard going in the wet last time. Trouble is, once you've played decent golf crap just won't do anymore. At least I'm honest enough not to blame the conditions, clubs, balls etc. If I can get it together I'll join in, otherwise, have a good day.
