It's that most wonderful time of the year!

I'm going to get well and truly bladdered so I miss the show.

But wait, this is a catastroff...
Ireland will not appear in this year's Eurovision Song Contest final after its entrant, Dustin the Turkey, failed to qualify from the first semi-final.

I suggest getting Girls Aloud to do a cover of Bucks Fizz's "Making your mind up" for next years UK entry. Deffo win.

Depends how you take it, TD. Don't search for the next great musical genius; enjoy the non-ironic wallow in F.U.N. instead.

I used to watch it every year as a kid, but not seen it for about 25 years or so now. Is it still car crash tv?

Yep, with the added fun of predictable block voting among the new nations. Wogan's increasingly tipsy gentle mockery holds the whole show together. I couldn't watch it sober.

I never did DSB, just used to enjoy the cultural music and instrumentation of other countries . Then it all became an Engish lyric pop contest. If Wogan ever leaves I won't bother watching at all.

Agree that it's better if they sing in their own language, but then we're back to the capitalist pap imperative again aren't we?

Just for you DSB. A classic clip: Azucar Moreno (Brown Sugar) from Spain doing "Bandido" some years back. Superb Euro in every respect (including the classic cock-up)

Bloody eurovision means i have to wait another week for the next episode of bloody Doctor Who ...

At least the BBC arnt bastards and showed the first part of a two parter before missing a week, unlike ITV who dropped an episode of Pushing Daises (which IMHO is a load of crap anyway) just so it would fit in with their schedule.

EDIT .. Just spotted the post from hisroyalgingerness (you was allowed to have spaces in your username you know :P ) nice to know it isnt just me then

I remember him getting selected, and being interviewed by the likes of Eamonn Holmes on Sky News .. i thought he would have at least made the finals .. Bloody Eurocrats.. if he had won through they would have probably wanted to ban him because of some bird-flu restriction

Now if we can just get 'em to use textspeak.....
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
