Am I not right in saying that Canada has a greater degree of public healthcare provision than the-frankly-stoneage-US? And therefore, under those circumstances is more likely to have an equal need for such a clause?

We do have Medicare, which is a universal health care system (not dental). It is of course underfunded and there are lengthy waits for non-emergency services. I know little about trade clauses so have no comment.

Funding has dropped by £200 per patient in the last 6 years. Of course theres a shortage of money! Bizarrely enough, its a sizeable chunk of about £200 per patient sized deficit.

If you flick back through these pages, I predicted that this government will rid us of our NHS. It has always been their central ideological goal. The argument with Junior doctors and now this are all ammunition for the simple minded amomgst us to go along with it.

Don't know why the Government has such poor ministers at health and education when the whole premise is that the Tories' superior [to Labour] economic management means these two areas are relatively protected while every other department is suffering from 25% cuts to budgets.

We have stories on the NHS and education every week where they're picking stupid fights

At some point in the coming years/decades we need a serious discussion on how to find another 3% of GDP (made up) to spend on health and social care at the expense of something else. Answers cannot mention the Indian space programme or Google's tax arrangements.

Maybe that means [higher rate?] tax payers have to contribute to some form of personal health insurance, or simply pay higher taxes at source, it's basically going to be the same funding source.. So whichever is more efficient will happen
