Interestingly, we pay more for our railways now, under private ownership, than we ever did when they were publically owned.

The incentive to invest in public good doesn't exist within the private sector, it invests for profit (quite rightly). The problem is, railways have a far greater weighting towards public good than profitability, so I'm in favour of us either getting rid of them completely or stopping the tsunami of money that flows to the operating companies.

Railways with the exception of shunting commuters into city's are largely not worth anything in the 'national interest' so I agree sell them off totally but ensure they can only operate under stringent safety regulations. I think after the flat fires more prosecutions will be the 'norm' for breeches of H&S and regulation.

Not that this isn't all fascinating, but it 100% without a shadow of a doubt is going to end up with basically the status quo but us paying slighty (but substantially if you get me) more for what we have now with enough of a label change for them to sell it as a "brexit". An exercise in arch futility.

Snigger, snigger, you kinda miss the point about the ECJ. One of the aims of Brexit was not to repeal masses of laws it was to stop the interference of the Euro courts in court decisions in the UK, i.e. the UK supreme court was the ultimate, last stop shop in any legal action taken about anything.

The courts and judiciary in this country stink at times, but at least it's our stink.
