Quantum of Solace
So.... apart from the spaceship at the end, what are people's thoughts?

Re: Quantum of Solace
As I wasn't a fan of Casino Royale (only saw it once, hated it on first viewing but haven't given it a rerun...need to address that), I was a bit apprenhensive, especially having paid a tenner for a fecking ticket!mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:So.... apart from the spaceship at the end, what are people's thoughts?
For me, it was all rather wham, bam, thank you mam. It is literally 90mins + of fight/car chase -> a bit of talking -> fight/car chase -> tuxedo party -> fight car/chase. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of action, but it can become rather relentless (whether it's supposed to represent 007's mindless rage well I'll leave that to the film buffs).
Good points - no sh*tty gadgets which is a good thing, always my pet peeve with Bond films. The scene at the opera was brilliant but apart from that it's all a bit samey, just different locations. Clearly leads into another installment as well, hopefully with a bit of a more rounded plot after this film is seemingly all about Bond blowing off steam.

Never seen one all the way through. Normally get bored and switch off. Set myself up to watch Casino Royale at my mates a few months back, before collapsing half an hour in and ending up in hospital. Perhaps I'm destined never to watch them. Can't say I'll be rushing to the cinema.Zulus Thousand of em wrote:Raven wrote:James Bond films

From the ones that I've seen, this has to be my favourite clip.

Much, much nearer the mark for Bond Bruce. A younger Connery, without all the flying jet packs, airborne speedboats and implausible plots would be terrific. The new Casino Royale was much nearer reality and an enjoyable film, but Daniel Craig just isn't it for me. No tall, dark ex-naval Commander with the black comma of hair, no hand-made cigarettes and famous matt black gunmetal case and Dunhill lighter in sight. Bond was far too balanced to go chasing out of a restaurant with a steak knife to kill someone amidst a crowd. He'll be drinking Perrier water in the next one.Bruce Rioja wrote:From the ones that I've seen, this has to be my favourite clip.

It doesn't though does it. He's simply saying he prefers the old style Bond, which many people have said.communistworkethic wrote:which misses the point of CR & QoS entirely.TANGODANCER wrote:Much, much nearer the mark for Bond Bruce. No. Not at all. The point being the Bond of Ian Fleming (who first appeared in 1953) was a different person than has been created to suit today's offering. I'm aware of what these latest films are about, but it isn't Fleming. Creating a new "dark" and complex Bond/ a la Batman etc, doesn't alter a thing. The "point" is nothing more than a convenient change to modernise. You like it , fine, your privelege. It's still a re-modelled convenient version which even the directors don't deny.communistworkethic wrote:which misses the point of CR & QoS entirely.TANGODANCER wrote:Much, much nearer the mark for Bond Bruce. This is Fleming's own idea of what his superhero looked like. The "damaged goods" version of today is another character altogether both physically and mentally. You take your pick which you like, but I've never really related the Bond of the books with the films anyway. Personal choice really.Worthy4England wrote:I'm with you on this one Tango. Bit like having Julian Clarey and Alex Sayle in a Carry-on film...
Daniel Craig works for me as a believable government agent and didn't need the Bond tag to do it. Bond is such an iconic character with the masses that he was highly marketable. The "licenced to kill" agent with a stock of funny one-liners was a product of Hollywood. Too good to miss I suppose.
