Wimbledon 2009

Laura Robson going to win Wimbledon ;) A set up here in the first match against Hantuchova. How has she grown 3 inches in a year?! Blimey.

Can't see past Federer in the mens', with Del Potro a possible surprise.

She's 4-2 up in the first set and is 9/4 in most places, get on it!

That one set was as good as it got - Robson's out. 6-2 in deciding set.

Federer's currently looking better than ever. The drop shots he's using more and more this year are very well disguised.

I find it really annoying that the British public seem to suddenly become interested in tennis for solely the duration of these two weeks and then don't give a damn about it for the rest of the year.

(Yes, I got knocked back for tickets)

Our school got given twelve tickets for the new Court 2 for next Monday, for the sneaky reason of being based a mile away from the venue. I wasn't invited, despite being the Games teacher and therefore responsible for teaching children how to play tennis. Damn you, school politics.

I grew and inch in 3 days, so three in a year is hardly crazy.

Not sure that Del Potro could be rated as a surprise ... he's what - 5th in the world, and the highest riser over the last 12 months. Those are very good odds though - he should at least make the semis ... big lad, big serve, good at net - all the ingredients.

Whether he can handle the pressure is another question, and he still has the ability to lose to muppets ocassionally (ie. to Lubicic in Rome was painful to see).

I think Gulbis could go a fair way - 300/1, and been injured most of the year, but has a game suited to grass.

In the women's Stosur should go alright. Got to the semis in Paris on her least favourite surface, and is a top doubles player - good at the net, etc.

Well, I watched a game last night ... a game, not a match, I stress.

That's plenty for me for this year.

It makes watching snooker or darts seem gripping.

Preferable to basketball I suppose ... or worm-charming, but only just.

(waaaaay past watching Patrick Kielty or Lenny Henry, of course ... but that's another subject).
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
