Reminds me of a best man speech at my mate's wedding, in which he recounted the time the groom prepared a meal involving chopped chillies for his then new girlfriend and then got all amorous while it was simmering.... uh oh!

Probably Chinese/East European fakes. Our local shop had trading standards round just before Christmas - fully half the bottles of wine were deemed to be fake and removed, which didn't surprise me in the slightest, but the removal of the 'Bachelors' tins of peas, the 'Heinz' tins of soup and the 'mars bars' came as a sobering lesson in just what it is the feckers think it's commercially worth faking these days. I shudder to think what the hell was in the 'mars bars'.

These are packaged for the GCC market, where the normal rule is half the quality and triple the price. Looks like I'm going to have to stump up even more for the Jolly Green Giant next time :(

This really leaves a bad taste and a foul smell!!
The nonagenarian is typical. She arrived in Addenbrooke’s on 15 September after passing out at home. After several weeks of tests and treatment for a broken rib she was declared fit to go on 28 October, but 72 days on, she is still trapped in hospital. Officially she is a “delayed transfer of care” – a “DTOC” in NHS-speak – waiting, in theory, for the hospital to arrange a package of care support with Cambridgeshire county council to enable her to get back home.
She needs to have carers coming in four times a day to help her with some basic tasks as she cannot walk, the legacy of breaking her back after falling over on snow in the very cold winter of 1963-64. But the reality of her situation is much more complex, and is both gloomy and very sad.
Jenny Abel, the hospital’s lead clinical specialist practitioner for discharge planning, explains that it has proved impossible to arrange help for her, simply because of where she lives – in a village 15 miles from Cambridge. “We just can’t get the care for her,” admits Abel. “The problem is that, although it would be a 15-minute call to see Mrs Lee, it would take 20 minutes to get there from Cambridge and 20 minutes to get back, and that would happen four times a day.
“But because of that, and because there’s no one else in her village receiving a care package, all of the four care providers who provide those packages – private companies – are saying that they don’t have the capacity to do it. They don’t have enough carers, or they don’t have enough care [to provide to others] in that area to make it viable.”
Hence, someone who is keen and fit to leave the NHS bed she is occupying unnecessarily is unlikely to be able to do so any time soon, because no one can make a profit from her doing so.
The whole article for those with normal blood pressure if you want to read it.

If I understand this correctly (and I may well not) home care in the UK is outsourced to private companies which can refuse to provide care if it is not profitable. What hhappened to the NHS? Aneurin Bevan must be turning in his grave.

Its all been privatised Monty. Its the most backward and regressive step we could have taken, but within a decade I suspect we'll be on private health insurance.

The upside is, it'll probably deal with the ageing population problem we've got without having to get anyone's hands dirty later.

Almost everything, including home care, is funded by the Provincial government with Federal subsidies. Home care is reputedly done much better in rural areas than in the city. There are few complaints about that system. The complaints here are about the long waiting time to get medical attention in hospitals, especially the emergency rooms. However, we do have private insurance too - often group insurance through the employer. This would cover expensive drugs not on the government list for example. In my rather more modest case I have an annual blood/urine analysis - I can go to a hospital and wait two hours catching diseases to have it done at no cost and wait a month for my doctor to get the result or I can go to my Dr.'s office and have it done by appointment (no waiting and he has the results when I have my annual check-up the following week). The latter costs about $250 but the insurance company pays 80% so for me the convenience is well worth it. It also covers you while travelling out of the country.

Having been to every away game in all competitions this season, and done 2 pre season friendlies this season to say I'm f**king livid at not getting a ticket for Anfield is putting it mildly. Very disillusioned with the club right now. I've spent and incredible amount of time, money and holiday following my team particularly the past two seasons, now I'm starting to ask what was the point.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Let's be honest Hoboh they wouldn't give a dam, I have enquired to see if there are more tickets. I don't go to home games so am in essence worth £0.00 a year to the club, infact from their perspective the likes of me are better off not being there. On a positive note you will be pleased to hear I have started drinking.

I'm after one of those at work as well & doing quite well. She smokes so I guess I'll be doing that soon as well. As you can tell the last few weeks have seen my principles plummet like a stone. I should of never gone out with the Reading lot the 30th. Out of interest does anyone have any spares for Anfield?
